Every season I tend to be surprised by what Wenger achieves with so little, the thing is we could have more to work with.
It's been like this for a very long time and we've all experienced ups and downs, but the basic template of falling short due to underinvestment in the squad is not changing.
That said, people who claim that Wenger is a tactical naif as well as an inadequate, penny-pinching recruiter should rethink their premises. It can't be both.
Granted he falls short from time to time organising our players, but overall his results given what he has tend to be above expectations.
Just look at this season, nearly every pundit was convinced we'd be languishing around where United are.
The only question is, does Wenger have it in him to change and be bloody-minded enough to achieve success again? Signing Ozil offered us some hope, but nothing will suffice for me but renewed statements of intent until we win a real trophy. A fruitless January is a massive black mark given our league position.
