wenger knows. it's not like superior teams like united, city and chelsea tweak their tactics when they play against us, right? the reigning champions don't have rooney man mark arteta to stifle our possession game, mourinho doesn't concede the ball and try to hit us on the counter, etc.... they just do the same thing they do every week??

even barca, undeniably the best team in the world at the time, paid special attention to walcott's pace. it's not hard to think of tactical tweaks made by big clubs against us, yet wenger stubbornly refuses to do the same.

it's negligent to not seize every advantage, no matter how small, when the margins in these big games are often so thin.

wenger needs to get over himself.

Thats exactly what he did tonight. He played a more conservative game because of Uniteds forward line. And it worked but to the detriment of our attacking game.

To be honest I'm not 100% sure if it was you (and few others), but I think so.

Anyway, no biggie ;-)

I think we should add more height and pace to the team, more players like Draxler is the way to go, no more Cazorlas please.

I'd like us to become a feared set piece team in the league (Europe).

Ramsey should spend the summer practising free-kicks with the view of him becoming our 1st choice free-kick taker starting next season. If a player like Flumps can bang in a few in a season there's no reason Ramsey can't. We are so fucking blunt on free kicks, probably the worst among the top teams in Europe.

A lot of big games are decided on set pieces and we are awful at them.

Let's be honest, we are unlikely to ever have the best squad in the league given the teams we are competing with. We are have to be smarter though if we want to compete with them; improve on areas they'd likely neglect, try to be be better tactically etc

I've been thinking the same thing. Seems like the sort of player who has the drive and dedication to make it happen. He'll have the extra time over most of his peers this summer without a World Cup to worry about.

Wenger doesn't think in terms of adapting his tactics to respond to an opponent and win the game, Wenger doesn't think in terms of doing whatever it takes.
He thinks that his philosophy is the only true perfect way and when it fails as it often does its due to some extranious fault like the ref or the pitch or the other team "refusing" to play "football"

I wish he'd piss off and give us back our football club- He's an embarrassment.

That's what's so infuriating, the sense that we're going to miss out by a small margin thanks to pointless stubborn fucking around.

It's like the team (and him) decided it was more important not to lose and regain some defensive stabiilty to recover from the Liverpool debacle. Not losing this game was more important it seems than winning it. The next step is to beat Liverpool in the cup to restore confidence, or that's the only thing I can imagine. Would also explain not bringing someone like Podolski on to the detriment of the defense.

Good point Feb, we had to stop the mind rot, regain some semblance of stability, and face Liverpool someway confident in our defensive capabilites at home.
As a manager Wenger had to work on restoring belief, unfortunately not getting caught by a sucker punch by United was the unsatisfying, unglamorous way of doing so.

Ramsey scored from a decent direct free kick in a friendly against Liechtenstein or Luxembourg a coupe of years ago, iirc.

We didn't give ourselves a chance to play cagey and defensive against City or Liverpool, they both caught us early.
People don't like watching it now but the only way we have of winning is by being cautious and catching teams in bursts of ten to max twenty minutes of chance creating in the second half of games.
Unfortunately we're missing Ramsey and Theo who were both reliable in terms creating and converting those chances.
Cazorla, Özil and Jack haven't been able to match that consistently.

Biggus, why do you feel the need to have a go at Wenger every day now again? I can totally agree with a pop every now and then, and there were causes for it yesterday, but every day now? I quite liked the Biggus who seemed a bit more measured, the guy who was posting here between September and mid January.
