I certainly wanted us to sign him from Chelsea, especially when he also proved so productive from wide right.
He has a good attitude. Looks like he goes out there and wants to show how good he is every game. Confident too.
We rarely latch onto these sensible, affordable signings just as they become available if the player's at an English club.
In Chelsea's case they do have a history of making trouble for us on deals.
They did for Ba but that was a loan. And Mourinho wasn't in change when Sturridge moved so I think Chelsea would have been happy to sell to us.
I'm speculating and so are you.

Could have won us the title last year honestly.
Yes yes Liverpools players may be very interesting, but back on topic.
Gazidis says 'The manager is not scared to spend'.

Methinks thou doth protest......too much, Ivan.
£130 mil in the bank and transfers being done at other club makes me think he is scared; or at least gripped by hesitancy.
This club will never wake up it's malaise at corp level until Wenger fucks off and they have to actually run a football club.
Well you can't blame the suits for not wanting to spend money, thats what they're there for.
But who speaks for the players? Who speaks for the fans?
Thats the problem at Arsenal.
Koscileny wants 4 class players. He will get two bargain basement players and a backup CF.
Same shit, different summer, more cash in the bank.
Sanogo will surprise us.

You'll see the same pattern going back years. The club executive always point out at this time of year that there is plenty of money and it's there to be spent. It deflects liability away from them and onto Wenger.
They should tell Wenger to spend money, not just make sure he knows it's there.
Well they can't- Wenger is the manager it should be his decision whether to spend or not and on who and he should live or die on that decision- Except that he doesn't.
They hold no sway over Wenger. They're distancing themselves from his shit show before it transpires.
Lol you think it's the fans keeping Wenger at the club? Gazidis and the board are absolutely behind Wenger, they just offered him a 3-year contract extension!

Hmm. Gazidis didn't say there was plenty money to spend this summer in his Q&A the other evening, he spoke of "financial restraints" and juggling a fixed budget. Do you reckon Wenger put him up to it? It was different in tone to the line he took at the beginning of last summer when he said we were entering a new phase as regards the money available to spend.
This year we are beginning to see something we have been planning for some time, which is the escalation in our financial firepower,’ said Gazidis. ‘I’m talking about an extra £70million of additional, high-margin revenue which we will be able to use. ‘We have a certain amount which we’ve held in reserve and we also have new revenue streams coming on board. All of these things mean we can do some things which would excite you. ‘We can think about all kinds of things.’

Doesn't sound like he's imagining all kinds of everything this season.
That was a naive thing to do last summer, and I bet you it impacted their negotiations thereafter. Sounds like he's learnt his lesson this year. That's all I see here. Let your actions do the talking Ivan and you'll still get a pat on the back just the same as you would by telling every one how much extra revenue you've brought into the club.
I would think those soundbites are aimed at us fans as opposed to clubs from whom we want to buy players. I reckon selling clubs and agents are still in no doubt as to how we operate in the transfer market - we weren't willing to be fleeced for Higuain for example.
I imagine the phrases coming out from Gazidis in the Q&A were down to justifying not going after Fabregas. But it does indicate to me that the 100m figure in the media is either fabricated (as usual), or includes wages and whatnot, or that he knows we're going to spend a lot of money elsewhere. Probably a bit of both, but I'd imagine our budget for transfer fee's is probably closer to 70m odd max.

Since we make our accounts public, any director or agent worth their salt can work out how much they can rip us off.
