why do we factor in image rights to our wages? it involves no additional out-of-pocket expenditure if the player retains his image rights. it just reduces our commercial revenue, so it would already be reflected there. or am i missing something?

Rather than the technical interpretation, i was just wondering why a journalist would publish figures that are not calculated using an identical measure for comparison. It surely cannot be impossible to either find the missing information or simply publish base figures without bonuses and image rights?

I think his extension, or rather announcing it, is purely down to our poor form. Would be PR disaster to announce it while our form is in the gutter. I would be schocked if he really decides to retire at the end of this season. Although i have come to a conclusion i really wish he would (while delivering top 4 and FA Cup). We need to hire Martinez, give him £100m to sort out all our problems and move on to bigger and better things.

obviously you want to compare apples to apples, but if arsenal doesn't publicise those figures, i don't know what else you can do besides list it with an asterisk denoting the difference.

but my point is that i don't think the way we do it makes any sense for the reason i stated.

Wenger said something very vague and evasive in 1 press conference about 4 years ago and now everyone takes it as gospel that our wage figure is somehow arrived at differently to everyone elses. Dont believe it personally.

He just said that it is all there. Everything that is related to player wages. For me, that sounds like the most accessible way of reporting too. I don't think Wenger has spoken about how other clubs report their wages though.

To be fair, I'd guess there's something more to it than you're suggesting, Tim - Wenger has made the point numerous times, but I saw him make it a couple of seasons back in a press conference to a journalist that said figures showed our wage bill wasn't dissimilar to United, City and Chelsea. Wenger basically said to the guy 'use your brain, do you really think our wage bill is anything like as big as theirs? It's that we are very transparent with ours and they are not'. Given the bullshit creative accounting we've seen from the likes of Chelsea, City, PSG and others in recent years to circumvent the FFP rules, or at United with the whole DHL deal (I think it was) in relation to their share prices, it would hardly be surprising if their wage bills were not telling the whole truth.

He was terrible for a period. I never called him a dud myself but a there was a whole thread calling him a dud. I was in the wait and see camp. That's not the point anyway. The point is Wenger likes developing players and managing generally. But he's not that good at it anymore and his players are worse. So maybe he should retire.

Ramsey got a lot of stick based on nothing. Main problem was that he was asked to step into Fabregas' shoes, and he was always going to come up short there, especially since just coming back from a loooong time out.

I don't remember anybody wanting him out though. Everyone knew he was a talent, except maybe Asa who advocated selling him to mid table clubs.

The vitriol directed at Ramsey both here and in the stadium was baffling. Wenger completely fucked him over by putting him on as a replacement for Fabregas too. He was playing in his position, and was therefore compared with what Fabregas brought to the team. It was never a fair contest.

Wenger should have bought a replacement for cesc, benched Ramsey long term ? Really ? I know it's become normal to twist everything to bash Wenger. But really ?
Giving him a chance, sticking by him and playing him consistently made him the player he is.

And his was poor in the final third until Wenger gave him games there now he's great.
