Meh, good player but not that good. Will give Man Utd a better chance of finishing 4th and I guess the move makes sense for both parties.

😆
Even with Mata they may not scrape fourth if Rooney and Van Persie don't get fit soon.
Every loss is going to kick at their already shaky confidence and they don't have Fergie to fire them up and out of the funk that they're in.

Far more concerned about what Chelsea will do with Mata money this window.

Apparently they are signing Salah from Basle. He looked good in the Europa league last year, reminds me of Overmars, but I have heard he's very inconsistent in the Swiss league.

By the way, money is not the problem for most teams in Europe. Even the likes of Spurs and Liverpool are capable of spending big on top players, availability of those players is the problem.

Chelsea getting extra 37m to their enormous bank account won't change a thing IMO.

It means that they can sign a striker without demolishing their ffp projections.

Who's that top striker they are going to sign?

There won't be a shortage of interest in Mata in the summer. They could easily swap him for Costa, maybe plus few millions.

You're spending too much time on this tactics. It's pretty simple, Chelsea feel they're getting a good deal from United and they don't need Mata, that's the end of it.

Maybe, but that's because I think Chelsea are being very stupid here. very risky move on their part IMO. This could be the deal that seals top 4 for those cunts.

I'm not privy to Chelsea's transfer plans. Obviously.

You can however read their financial reports whenever you like and if they want to make ffp, which it appears they do, then they have to sell. Getting £40m for an unwanted bench warmer is great business and gives them alot of freedom either now or in the summer.

You seem to be hung up on your opinion of Mata's quality, however your opinion means nothing to Chelsea who have demonstrated time and again that Mata is surplus to their requirements.

You think Chelsea give a toss about whether United finish top four or not?

they should care.

but united could have done better for 40m. they're just desperate. this is a decent transfer for united's rivals.

I don't think it's wrong for them to sell Mata if they think he's of no use to them, but I just think it's very risky selling a player of his quality to United when they look like going into a massive crisis. Mind you, this is a player that was voted Chelsea's best player for the past 2 seasons. You just have to read the old threads on here to see how highly rated he was/is.

Sell him to PSG or Atletico or clubs like that in the summer. They might not get 37m for him but I'm pretty sure they'll get around 30m for him.

United in the top 4 with their new sponsorship is not good news for Chelsea especially if FFP kick in. Destroy your rivals while they are down, don't give them a helping hand.

Chelsea are hi-jacking Liverpool's deal for Salah 😆

Wish we utilised this quick buying (brown envelope?) technique which cuts out all the months of speculation.

Well, as I remember it, Mata is on very high wages so there are only a few clubs who could afford him. It would be silly to wait around for a bid that may never materialise when you have a buyer willing to pay what you want and have the players' agreement.

He's on 67k according to most Chelsea fans I know. That's very low for a player of his quality IMO

Pretty clear that Mourinho doesn't rate Mata all that highly, so why would he worry about him going to a rival?

So where will Mata play? Out wide?
