Interesting to see so many on here including Sol Campbell in their All Time XI. He's very underrated outside Arsenal fans but seemingly overrated among us. He was a world class CB and arguably top 3 for 4-5 maybe 6 years but he didn't have the longevity of others such as Nesta, Stam or even Tony Adams.

A cheeky one would also put Terry and Ferdinand in front of Sulzeer 😛

Staam was terrifying defender.
Interesting that auto correct when writing 'terr' in 'terrifying' offers 'terro-cuntery'.

  1. Is that too young?

Schmichael

Thuram
Baresi
Nesta
Maldini

Rijkaard
Xavi

Savicevic
Zidane
Messi

Ronaldo (fatty)

Rjkaard was such a boss, best 'DM' ever.

My all time favorite defender: Franz Beckenbauer

It is difficult to compare players from different eras. When watching clips like the one above, and I haven't yet watched that particular clip, the time defenders had on the ball made everything so much easier compared to the modern game.

Only a crackhead would rate Terry as better than Campbell.

So all Chelsea fans are crackheads, then?

The ones who think Terry is better than Campbell are.

Captain logic I guess. You always state your opinion like it's fact.

Filthy cunt though, you remember his double spit at Rudi Voeller in the 1990 world cup don't you Volly?

Campbell was a world class defender but he was a poor footballer

I can see why he's not as highly rated in Europe.

Campbell was a great footballer.

He couldn't trap a bag of cement.

He was as good as he needed to be. Best centreback in the country for 5 straight years and world class in at least two major championships.

Exactly how I remember him.

He was truly a beastly defender though, one of the best headers of the ball I have ever seen. I think his major advantage over say someone like Terry defensively was his recovery pace. Terry is/was world class sitting deep, defending in his box, but never looks comfortable playing a high-line, Campbell was class in both systems (sitting deep or playing higher up the pitch). However on the ball, Terry is a far better footballer than Campbell ever was. I wouldn't be shocked if majority of football fans outside England see Terry as the better CB.

Pascal Cygan was quite good on the ball. Just sayin

It is a fact that Campbell was better than Terry.

Sol was an absolute monster. I don't think the guy ever lost out in an aerial dual.

And he was definitely better than John Terry, as was Rio Ferdinand.

I think Segway's point is, most Chelsea fans will also say "its a fact Terry is better than Campbell".

They will, of course. Would be more interesting in hearing what fans of clubs other than Arsenal and Chelsea think.

Most would say Terry, for sure.

The sheep always vote for the guy who has the final word. Didn't you guys read Animal Farm?

Before we signed Campbell EVERY big club in England and Europe was fighting for his signature, I don't know what Wenger must of said to get him to join us but was one of the biggest shock transfers ever.

Even on his return in 09/10 for us he was fantastic, disappointed he didn't stay another year. Remember him chasing Bale down and tackling him, not the quickest initial acceleration but once he got going I think there were few who could outrun him. Such a shame what happened in 05/06, think he had some personal issues that got to him. If we had kept him for a few more years we wouldn't of had as many CB issues like we did that is for sure. Could of played at the top level until he was 35, immense defender.

Weird that John Terry was actually really well liked and respected before the whole Wayne Bridge thing came to light.

I have always hated him

I meant by the general public and English fans of non-rival clubs. Ofcourse most Arsenal fans have always hated him.

Yeah, I don't know. Maybe people generally don't pay attention to this stuff but every single rumour that has ever been spilled about his private life suggests that he's utter scum. Played like a typical drinker for years too before his alcohol problems came into light. I've never seen anything either on or off the pitch that made me like him.

Now something to wash away the Terryball stench from this thread.
without knowing

5 days later

with theo out and the champions league fixtures coming up next month, I thought I would have a look at some of bayern's best moves this season.

I am scared...

Not too impressed by that video.

I wonder what would've happened to him if he hadn't put on all that weight in Italy. Even before he got fat he was really pushing it for a guy his size. He weighed as much as Ibrahimovic who's almost three inches taller and probably the heaviest striker in all of football. Safe to say it stopped some of his finer skills from developing any further.

Wasn't he was suffering from depression? Had a drinking problem too.

Adriano was class (briefly), ridiculously left footed, but a real tank.
