Shevchenko was incredible when he replaced Weah in the Milan team.
Much better than Ozil has ever been.
As for the ballon d'blatter, we all know that is a fake trophy ceremony made for FIFA's TV paymasters that nobody, i know, pays real attention to. Only remember last year's because Messi apparently wore a polka-dot bikini or suit?

Ozil was an odd signing in the sense that it seems like it was opportunistic, which is amazing considering his profile and status.
I reckon we were destined to get a player from Madrid this summer though, happily we got the best one after Ronaldo.

Shevchenko was on paper an amazing signing at that time. One of world's best top striker. Nobody knew it would turn out this way. Think Aguero, Yaya can be classed as world class too when they joined

Come to think of it, why do we have so little established world class players joining the premierleague? Clubs here have so much money. Surely its gotta change soon.

They don't move very often. I doubt the numbers are that much different for any other league.

i think people are overlooking Aguero a bit. he wasn't at the pinnacle of his career, but he was one of the very hottest young talents in Europe when he came here. that was a massive acquisition by Citeh. Torres was not far behind in this regard, and then Liverpool happened

but agree on others: Ballack, Veron stand out.

Don't think Torres is on the same kind of status when he joined to be honest, he didn't score that many goals in Spain and had less suitors for his signature.

Spain would be leading the way by far. Neymar, Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Beckham, R9, Henry etc etc etc. Serie A have seen more world class players joining them too, especially in the 90s.

Yaya was a good player, but I don't think he was world class. Mostly sitting on the bench following the rise of Biscuit.

Sheva's record in the knock out phase of the CL (the highest level in football IMO) was second to none, maybe Messi's now better, I don't know - haven't checked for a while. Henry is my idol, my favourite player ever, but to be honest he hardly delivered at that level.

Henry's all-round game was better, but as a pure striker, Sheva was better IMO. Overall I'd say Henry was slightly the better player, but I'm probably biased, I'm sure Milan fans would say the opposite.

Not a lot between them IMO.

Yeah true. I think he moved at the wrong time and to the wrong team; he'd lost most of his physical qualities, and that Chelsea team wasn't creative enough for a striker of his type.

He looked leggy and his confidence was shot to pieces.

Very few will contest it. Shevchenko wasn't even the best player in his own team the year he won the ballon d'or. Kaká was better than him in that Milan side and was the one who was rightfully named footballer of the year in Serie A back in -04. Sheva never got that award. Not once. He was a great player but hardly unique. Giving him the ballon d'or was a bit like gving it to Michael Owen a few years previously.
