Take no credit away from the finish, I saw analysis on this and Olly was outside the line of the goalpost, he had to bend it to sneak inside the post.

He's technically perfect. Knows how to move his body and anticipates play so well that he reads opponents body shape and uses their momentum to their disadvantage.

Decent shout, but he was never as good as Özil, and he certainly wasn't at his peak.

He was an amazing striker but he was never in the league of Henry or Eto'o IMO. I'm still livid that Shevchenko and Nedved have a Ballon d'Or on their respective CVs and Henry does. By far the best player in the world from 2002-2004.

Gotta agree with Voly. Shevchenko was pretty overrated. One of the top ten, maybe even the top five players in the world at one point, but he wasn't even the best player in Italy when he got the ballon d'or. Never mind the rest of Europe.

Nobody really knew he wasn't at his peak anymore though. He was 29 and he'd just scored 28 goals that season for Milan, including being the top scorer in the CL. Had won the CL, had won the Balon D'or etc.

After Shevchenko you're looking at Ozil, Ballack and probably Veron. Then maybe the likes of Barthez, Desailly, Bergkamp and Deschamps. Really not many established world class players have joined the Premier League

Ballack and Veron are good shouts. Both were at a higher level when they joined than Sheva in my opinion. I think I'd put Özil ahead of all of them though, for the simple reason that he was coming off a season where he had arguably been the second best player at the biggest club in the world. Only way we could have outdone him was ny signing Ronaldo.

Think I'd put Ballack ahead of Shevchenko, would definitely put Ozil ahead of all of them though.

Well it's certainly a step up from getting Benayoun in on loan.

Ballack was widely expected to leave too. Özil was not, up until a week or so before the window shut. It was such a coup.
