We could really use Matic to be honest, think he'd be brilliant with Ramsey. Reminds me of Redondo (no, not Song Alf).

Matic is great, but Benfica wanted 35m for him when Chelsea enquired. It is very hard to buy players from the Portugese clubs.

Shame we signed Flamini on a 2 year deal, because Fernando of Porto would be good for us. Still mind boggling why we didn't go for Gustavo.

Gustavo would have been awesome. He's much better than Matic IMO. Doesn't have the same frame but technically he's on a different level. 30m is crazy money for the Serb.

Would Gustavo have been any better than Arteta or Flamini? He wanted to stay in Germany where he is comfortable so we weren't an option.

Over time I've gotten over this whole destroyer bollocks as a DM, need a good tackler & positioning but importantly must be a very good passer of the ball and good under pressure. Basically we need Busquets......

Gustavo is Busquets light basically. Much better than both Flamini and Arteta. Very complete DM IMO.

I'm pretty sure he'd come here if presented the opportunity. Don't think we were in for him as soon as Wenger realized Flamini would be an ingenious free transfer so Gustavo was basically "forced" to go to Wolfsburg as there were no other suitors. He made sure that there was inserted a clause though so that he can be signed from Wolfsburg for a similar price to what they gave for him according to their Sports Director Klaus Allofs. So if we want him we can definitely get him. He should be a target in the Summer IMO as he would upgrade on both Flamini and Arteta.

I love central mids who don't look hurried on the ball. Those who play at walking pace are fantastic. Complete command of the ball

Gustavo is not better than Arteta. He didn't come here in the summer because Wenger couldn't guarantee him a starting spot.

Nonsense. He's much more dynamic and offers just as much on the ball as the Spaniard.

He really doesn't. That's why he's playing at Wolfsburg now. He's a good player but guys like him are a dime a dozen.

It's more down to coincidence than a measure of his ability that he's at Wolfsburg where he's been fantastic so far.

Rumor has it that deals for Gustavo/Cabaye never materialized because Wenger wouldn't promise either games over Arteta.

Pretty sure both of them would have looked at Arteta and felt confident that they could nick his place in the first eleven in the foreseeable future if not immediately.
