We have been interested in Draxler since 2010, he isn't a last minute buy and I can't see why we would fail to stump up £25 mil for Lamela then go and bid £40mil on player that doesn't want to leave playing for a club that doesn't want to sell.

We've been interested in hundreds of players, doesn't mean you bid on all of them.

Which is my point, this isn't part of any plan, this is us bidding on anyone and everyone.

I doubt we are for this player at the levels spoken about, i also don't think that will be the approach overall. Wenger seems adamant not to go into the market in a rash way which is fine however we are short and I think he seems perfectly happy at this point letting it ride out unless someone decent is available at a decent price.

The latest is yesterday we offered 30 million euros + Podolski to Schalke for Draxler. This off a decent twitter account, no ITK so i would like to believe it.

Would rather keep Poldi and top up ₤15m. We need depth.

Based on very good sources: Yesterday Arsenal offered Schalke 30 mill Euro and @Podolski10 to get Julian Draxler.

fjortoft has a lot of sources in germany. could be true.

I don't rate Podolski, but we have to add numbers to the squad, not just replace.

He also responded to Honigstein's tweet saying there's a 20% chance of getting Draxler by saying there's a 5% chance. So we might have bid but the consensus is they don't want to sell and he isn't going to froce a move.

We offered them Podolski who is injured for 10 weeks? How would that even work?

we're not signing draxler. it's too little too late.

That Podolski thing sounds like something we would do. Wenger really doesn't like him, does he?

Why buy him then? Was clearly not a panic buy.

While I'm sure he is an awesome prospect we need players who are already there. If he is coming in to compliment a couple top players fair enough but we might not have many other options left....

Using a player with a 10 week hamstring tear as a make-weight in a deal, yeah right sure.

would be even more idiotic and embarassing than our efforts to sign suarez. better not be true

Hasn't Fjortoft got loads wrong so far this summer? And offering a player that's out for 3 months? Sure. Stupid offer, anyway, we need the depth!

Its clear as day Wenger don't like what Podolski offers to us on the left. He prefers players that gets more involved in our overall play.

Well, he's not going to offer much from the treatment table, that's for sure. Suspect Schalke might realise this.

Quick, edit your post before Daily Fail picks up on Wenger's tactic.

But its a muscle tear clubs will expect a full recovery. A lot of clubs would still be interested in our goal machine. Why would 30m and podi be a poor offer ?

With the two year contract he signed at the end of the season with Schalke, it's all a bit non-urgent from the perspective of both player and club.

Yep he is playing for Schalke today, definately not going to happen.

watched the first half of schalke v leverkusen. hard to get a read on draxler as schalke look pretty disjointed. you can he's technically a cut above everyone with the few touches he's had. almost set up a goal aftet skinning his fullback at the end.

uchida and bender both look bloody handy though

Word is that the Schalke manager came out after the match and said that Draxler is going nowhere.

On to Kalou I guess. Or maybe we'll sign Gervinho

Schalke's general manager Horst Heldt says Draxler won't be sold. As @honigstein said, club would want up to £50m for him. No go. #afc

the match isnt over. when did he say that then?

not that it matters, we wont sign him.

Pre-match I presume, I saw it on twitter like 2 hours ago.

These quotes are from 2-3 days ago. Samuel just posted them today.

probly planned as backup striker

Darrenarsenal says we have gone all out for Draxler. Make sense given that we are completely fucked with no other viable targets.

He'll definitely get my hopes up for the new season.

I have no doubt that Arsenal is still an attractive club for players as long as we pay competitive wages. That said, I don't know if Draxler will want to come this season as he will effectively be forfeiting Champions League football. He may not have been a priority but then we really should have activated this plan before the qualifier.

I don't think so. He would have been eligible if Schalke had failed to qualify.

I am pretty certain that is what the rule says, unless it has changed recently. Since Schalke qualified too, he is ineligible.

We're not signing draxler, so this discussion is pointless.

it is a given. just silly wording.
