Why did Milan let him go? Am I correct in saying that he's always run down his contract and never had a transfer fee on his head?
Flamini for free

I do not know whether Milan let him go or he just wanted to - but you are correct. Noone has ever paid a transfer fee for this guy.
Flamini did a law degree when he was with us. He's a smart guy, probably planned the no fees thing.
I'd be happy to have him back. Think he's quite a British style player.
He shouldn't have left in the first place. Would have been one of the best defensive mids in Europe now
Don't want him.

exactly - why let the club and agent get the transfer fee when he can get the signing bonus instead.

Who would you prefer-Schweinsteiger ?
If he was committed on the pitch and cap in hand off it, he'd be worth having around as a squaddie.
He had half a good season with us.
I'll take him as back up to Arteta which is underwhelming because I wanted Arteta to be back up to our DM to begin with. Looking for bargains as usual.
Ugh. I want to punch myself in the face. What a shit signing.

Still better than nothing, i suppose.
He had a contract offer from Milan.

That was never gonna happen.

Why does he have to be "cap in hand off it"?
Did he nearly crash his car at his latest wage offer?
Did he meet officials of other teams for ice cream?
Did he leave because he pined for his Italian DNA?
Did he leave to join a bunch of cunts?

Yes on the last one...
Anyway, I think if he wants to act like a mercenary, I don't see any reason we shouldn't treat him as one. That's the new football reality, so probably doesn't make sense to hate him for it, but no reason to particularly like him either.
Flamini left in very respectful fashion.
Indeed, we might pay him money to play football for us.
If he plays well we might like him- No need for the hate.
I don't hate him for leaving. I just think he's crap, and resent the fact that we're ONLY signing him because he's cheap & french.

Because he hasn't been very good in recent years, and the last thing we need is a mediocre squad player who also thinks he deserves a guaranteed start and a fat wage packet.
Problem with that, or should we just engage in some misty-eyed reminiscences about how great he was five years ago?
£75k is a lot but it isn't unreasonable if that includes a signing on bonus. It would work out around maybe £40-50k as his basic wage which isn't a lot for a squad player.
Whether he's worth that is another issue but its not an unreasonable demand for someone in his position.
It's twice what a player of Flamini's quality is worth.
