It's just the vagaries of football. Mourinho's Madrid were probably the best team in Europe in his second season, very similar to this current Madrid in pretty much every way, but they lost a great semi final against a top Bayern team on penalties and the rest is history.
Think Bayern just peaked a bit early this year. They were playing their best stuff in jan/Feb.
Alonso and Modric were tip top over the 2 legs. Absolute class.
