Indeed, we can blame the back four but our midfield offers such poor protection for them it is laughable. Arteta the only one who does a decent job at it but imo while I think he is a fine player in the big matches he has looked out of his depth. A Bayern fan on redcafe told me, remember reading last season when their Martinez bid also failed they were looking for the kind of money that it would take to buy Martinez and not willing to let him go easily. I think they rejected 25mill euros not £30mill btw, so my mistake! I think he has a release clause in his contract next year so will be available for less than £20mill. I think Captain alluded to it as well that our bid was test that release clause but don't think it is active yet.

Release clause is always tricky. Is it possible a player have release clause but nobody knows about it?

No, otherwise there is no point to it. The agent would make sure the people that needed to know found out.

i am in support of paying mad money for a Bender or even a Pogba.
my hope this summer was that we would spend a lot of money (60 to 70 million pounds) on two really good players who made us seem serious again. after that, you can bring in all the Sanogos and Flaminis your heart desires

I think in Germany a few players have release clauses that kick in after a few years of their contract. I am not sure about Gotze but I think Reus has one which is active next summer (I believe they are trying to tie him down to a new deal without the clause) so it wouldn't surprise me if Bender has something similar. Even here Fellaini had one which expired recently, I think the reason it expired before the window closes is so Everton are in a position to go out and replace if someone does activate it. Bayer are in the CL and don't need the money so they are under no pressure to sell.

We'll bring in a few stopgap solutions to patch up the squad and you know the rest.

Biggus, what is sad is that Dick Law, Gazidis and Kroenke are all in the picture and none of them have been able to arrest this rot. That's what kills me. We know that Wenger is powerful but he is not responsible for overall management of the club nor is he the majority shareholder. He isn't the guy being embarrassed in negotiations when he offers a farthing and PSG offers a fortune. Why has everyone else failed?

Yes, Wenger seems to be coming out on top in the power struggle within the club, and it's Gazidis who will end up looking like a fucking idiot- He shot off his mouth about all the money available yet nothing happened.
Wenger can now carry on as usual leaving room for the usual doubt about if the money was really there.........And some imbeciles will believe him.

Only transfer rumour i can take seriously, well and Flamini of course. With a fully fit midfield and hypothetically if we sign him will he start?

Surely we only need one of Cabaye and/or Flamini? We'd probably be a bit overstocked with both, unless Flamini really is being brought in as defensive cover, which would be stupid.

Was sort of against this at the start but changed my mind completely. Arteta could be out until December and the last thing we want to do is run Ramsey and Wilshere into the ground. Even if Flamini signs too there will be plenty of games and he might be needed for full back cover anyway.

I love Arteta but his legs are going and he's not been great against the top sides. Cabaye is not only an alternative, he's probably an upgrade in all honesty. More mobile, more creative and excellent at set-pieces. We've been fucked by injuries and a lack of squad depth before so i'm all for getting Cabaye and Flamini.

Wenger talks about numbers and is still including rosicky and diaby in those figures, total waste man as we should be thinking about a replacement for rozza as he is getting on adn we can't ever rely on diaby because he is diaby.

We need 2 other players in mid but they should be able to go LW,RW,AMC and the other should be a good DM. Instead we are looking to get another ramsey and seem mostly to be holding out hope that madrid won't shaft us again like they did with higuain.

Gazidis once said that we could call him incompetent but couldn't say that he did care about getting things done player wise at the club. The more I see of our behaviour more I think that is the case the club doesn't know how to act on it's plan if there even is one.
