Whilst that may be true I'd rather sign someone who Arteta would fill in for he's injured/fatigued.

Ramsey, Wilshere and Ramsey are decent options for the two deep midfield positions, need someone a class above that to anchor the midfield. I don't think Cabaye is that player.

To be frank, we can do better than each and every one of our existing midfielders. At the same time, though, central midfield has a depth problem that is increased by injuries to Diaby and Chamberlain, and the injury-prone nature of Rosicky. If we are solving for depth, Cabaye is an excellent purchase.

He won't be signing in that capacity though, he'd be signed to start and that's the problem. Giroud should never have been signed to start but he was. Cabaye would be a similar sort of signing, a player who could be improved on every time the transfer window opens. Only Koscienly and Cazorla in the current squad are players you'd want to build a team around, we need more of them and fewer Girouds. Good player but there's better out there, much better.

I watched his debut for Wolfsburg at work today and he didn't play anything like a DM though. 98% pass completion rate. Was involved in most of their attacks.

Didn't realise you were a fan of Oscar Captain 😉

I mean in terms of someone we can buy! I would of thought we would be in for more of a defensive midfielder as Wenger seems to have a lot of faith in Wilshere & Ramsay coming good. Do you think having someone like Bender (who I'm assuming is more of a box to box player) would be the best way forward or someone more defensive minded to allow the other two more freedom.

If it were up to me, Wilshere would never play ten and it wouldn't be an issue!

But seriously, if both are playing and given the freedom to go box to box, then I think we need a Gilberto style player to babysit them for a season or two.

I do think Wilshere needs improve a lot, I think it is more of a sign of the times that so many of our fans pin our hopes on him.

Any players in mind who are available who could fulfil that role?

Not sure mate, I could throw out some names but any relatively experienced midfielder in europe could probably do the job.

He's very comfortable in any of the 3 midfield positions(DLP, box to box, AM). Problem is, he's another midget, and I don't think he's professional enough to get the most out of his undoubted talent.

Yeah, but he's got more ability in his little toe than any other central midfielder in this league, excluding Yaya Toure. He'd at least give us some control again, and when he's on he bosses the game. Seen him outplay the Barca midgets a couple of times.

Yeah not been overly impressed by him.

Good player for the future but we need someone with more presence in midfield. One of Ramsey, Wilshere and Arteta would have to be benched in the ideal scenario. A Yaya Toure or someone more like Lampard.

Tony, I would actually bench two of them. I would like a midfield that is somehting like

Cazorla: goalscoring / creative who can go forward
Wilshere/Ramsey: box-to-box
Pogba: defensive beast, who mainly guards the central defenders and fills in full back gaps
