Panic buy as always. Chambo could be out for a while and we're short on numbers so Wenger thinks he could put in a cheeky cheap bid to shore our lines up a bit. It makes sense at this point but we should've been signing much better players way earlier in the window. Cabaye was probably no where near our top targets and we probably never planned on signing him this summer anyway. It feels like the Arteta signing all over again, another signing to keep us in contention for the 4th place trophy.

I couldn't give a shit about Pardew or Newcastle, but the timing is certainly strange and won't make it easy for us. At least it will probably be Joe Kinnear dealing with it from their side. He's even more inept than our lot.

Usually being subject to a bid spurs players on. Remember Mascherano's performance against us before he joined Barcelona?

Frankly Pardew's respect isn't worth damn. As a supposed big club, I quite like being able to go over to Newcastle and swipe one of their players whenever we want. That's what it should be like.

He's trying to deflect attention from his own and his team's abject performance.
None of them are with him, the result would not have been a whole lot more different even with Cabaye

Cabaye would be a very underwhelming signing for me - squad player at best. I don't think he offers anything that we don't already have, and he's not exactly consistent. We still need someone hard at the base of midfield, and that isn't Cabaye.

This panic bid confirms that we'll never break that 20m mark under Wenger doesn't it? He'll keep making those sort of bids but never quite go up to the asking price then he'll say "we tried." It's always going to be 10-15m players and never the next level up.
