Feels so very odd to be in a situation where I'm thinking that the availability of all our players may mess with the good run that we've got going.

He played 60 mins by the way, along with Arteta. Sounds like he had a good game too. Jack completed 90 mins which can only be a good thing.

Not really shocking though, is it? Diaby has insane potential, and with all the experience he has at reserve level he should be bossing that midfield.

Keown: Diaby could have been new Vieira, but now is taking up a squad place

In his column for the Mail, veteran Arsenal defender Keown said: “I feel absolutely gutted for him. I was working with the club when he arrived at a similar time to Alex Song. They were two youngsters full of promise, but Diaby was already injured when he arrived at the club. He’s had such bad luck swith injuries ever since.”

Keown added: “It’ll be a difficult decision for Wenger, as he’s given him plenty of time to recover. If he lets Diaby go, it’ll be with a heavy heart. He treats each player like they’re family, like they’re one of his boys.

“I thought he was going to take the place of Patrick Vieira. He was like Patrick, but with an extra yard of pace – and Patrick was no slouch!

“Wenger was buzzing over his signature when he signed him, he was really excited to work with him. He and the coaching staff did a lot of extra work with Diaby after training. He could have been the long-term solution.

“But at the moment he’s taking up a place in the squad. Arsene has a tough call to make.”

Would be ridiucous if we give the guy a new contract. I don't care about the wages, I care about the same thing Keown does, that he takes up another valuable place in our squad. Time to move on.

I can only guess that he has retained that squad place based more on emotion than anything else.

Wilshere, Diaby and Gnabry are starting for the U-21s again tonight. I remember us using the reserve league in the past to bring injured players back to match fitness. It's a practice that completely stopped with the remodelling of the league.

I am happy we are doing so again, luckily there are weekly fixtures at present. No more drafting injured players straight back in high intensity matches. Having a squad of players you can rely on helps. I am sure Arteta would have been rushed back if it was Flamini playing instead of Coquelin.

There's a slightly interesting sub-plot there in that we're pushing for promotion in the U21 league. Arsenal are in 4th (yeah, hahahahaha) and playing Reading who are 3rd.

Wilshere and Diaby playing a few more games there could get us over the line - and then we'll join the top division with Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool etc.

The game can be seen on the Arsenal website, 6.45pm.

I really hope we take it slow with Jack this time. I'd rather just have him as a super sub for the end of the season than start him too much (assuming we don't have another raft of terrible injuries).
