Amazing that he just keeps going. What the fuck does he have to do to get a start though?
I think, just from watching him in the last couple of games, that he's still pretty raw in general play, doesn't get involved enough or cover quite the right spaces off the ball. With young players the sheer enthusiasm makes up for a lot of shortcomings, but it's something Nelson will have to improve on. He's good when they're pushing forward, but you can tell that these are his first professional appearances where he's asked to adapt to a team structure and not just slot into the odd Europa League frankenstein eleven against opponents from third-tier leagues.
I read an article the other day (it might've been the one Tone linked to in this thread) where Nagelsmann said something similar, that he's not completely happy with Nelson yet, while at the same time praising the effort and his down to earth personality. Nordtveit was also interviewed and said that they're playing a very specific system where the manager asks a lot of the players tactically. It's not an easy team to adapt to, and I think Nagelsmann is doing the right thing by keeping him grounded, especially now when every ball in front of goal just seems to bounce the right way for him. Keep working on basics in training, keep him hungry, and the rest will come.
