Monreal has been decent and nothing more, and Gibbs has been better than him by a comfortable margin. People saying Nacho is in the form of his life may have a point, but he was nothing more than passable at CB, he is still dodgy 1 v 1, and he still can't stop crosses from coming into our box to save his life. Don't have to look further than yesterday to, once again, illustrate the thing with stopping crosses; he is nowhere near tight enough to his man, and he is easily able to whip in the cross which led to Villa's only big chance of the game. For me all this is easy to explain; Monreal knows he is a turtle, compared to most wide players, and to compensate he drops off, thus allowing crosses time and again. Gibbs is rapid, and that allows him to get much tighter to his man, and he stops waaaaay more potentially dangerous situations from occurring.
Replacing Monreal would be the easiest thing in the world IMO. I'd also sell Cazorla. Can't be arsed to lay out my reasons for this again, but if anyone cares it's in the Red Tops.
