Support goes hand in hand with performance.

Rewind to a couple of pages back and most of us were contemplating silly suggestions to sell him last season. He was never as poor as people made him out to be, but he certainly has gone up a few notch this season with his solid performances.

Monreal and Bellerin seem to have developed a bit of an understanding of when one goes up the other sits.

i've never particularly rated gibbs. no need to get rid of him or anything, but he's not as good as clichy, who in turn was not as good as cole. monreal is much better in possession/short passing.

klaus, glad you're with me on chesney. people def have favourites, and that's on top of the arsenal-tinted glasses that many of us wear. i think i'm alone on the wilshere train, but we never miss him when he's out. i see what i see, and our record with and without him in the team over the last couple years speaks for itself.

Exactly, people bitch about Olly's finishing (which isn't too bad) because they don't understand that the way we play and in the PL in particular, we need a big robust ball winner and his main job is to bring in your Sanchez's your Oxlad's and your Walcott's.
Just because he's the focal point and usually furtherest forward doesn't make him the classical #9.

I think Monreal's got a great cut back, very good at linking up going forward.
He looks a lot stronger physically these days too.

Sell Monreal? That makes no sense.

We are supposed to be building a squad.

First team or not is another question but he is def a useful player to have in our 22.

No real need to get rid of either Gibbs or Monreal, they form a solid-enough platoon and will get enough games covering each other's continuous injuries. The only thing you would ideally want is one of the to be a bit younger and therefore show promise of having a higher level, which isn't the case here. Not that many top quality LB's in Europe right now so we should stick to what we have

I like Nacho a lot. He's focused and can sense danger well. The fact he can play centreback too makes him a valuable squad member

Absolutely do not understand peoples need to get rid of proven players in the squad. Realistically our main focus right now must be keeping this whole squad together over the summer and adding 1 or 2 and we would finally have a squad as big as our competitors. Without having to gel like 5 new starters into the team while most of our best players are injured is not a way to achieve good results and if we can avoid both, we will finally have a decent season where we can challenge.

Only totally expendable members of the squad are Diaby and Flamini, who should be released and their wages should go toward a new, world class midifeld anchor. Add a classy forward player and we would be in the mix.

We have numbers now with the signing of Gabriel and the emergence of Bellerin and Coquelin. This is the deepest squad of the Wenger era - 2 proper players per position. We fall short when it comes to quality.

That problem is going to necessitate a shift in transfer policy - we've traditionally been so bare bones that it was never really a question whether there was enough space for new signings. Now we're going to have to sell players we don't like in order to buy players who can potentially improve us. Chelsea turned Mata, David Luiz, and Lukaku - all very good players - into Cesc, Costa, and Courtois, who are top class. Will Wenger be able to effect similar transformations?

Particularly when the talk is about Gibbs and Nacho. Preferences are legit - I personally prefer Gibbs, even now when Nacho is in the best form he's been since coming here. But I certainly don't mind him playing (when he's in such form, at least). Though form has fluctuated for both, in principle the LB position was the first position in this current squad we were settled in, and that hasn't changed since. It's now just a matter of playing the one in form.

I have seen talks of selling people like Cazorla, Monreal, Gibbs, Rosicky, Szczesny, Ospina, Debuchy, Mertesacker etc in the past few weeks. It's insane and make no sense at all.

It makes sense if the theoretical argument goes that you'll bring in someone better at the same time.
