Özil/Ramsey/Wilshere are the three best players, they all have to play. Podolski is most likely to score from the wings, he has to play. Best way to get them all in the team with some defensive balance is Wilshere RW, Podolski LW, Ramsey-Arteta in midfield. My view for the rest of the season anyway.

Still can't get my head around Rosicky coming on and not Podolski and later Chamberlain instead of Podolski.

Did i misinterpret the clip as, watching it for the first time, he seemed to be laughing more to avoid answering the question than the holocaust so i do not think you have to feel bad. My issue would be if the quote was correct and tbh i wouldn't be surprised if it was true.

It's pretty clear that Wenger believes that Rosicky and Chamberlain have more defensive value than Podolski because they're midfielders, not strikers. I think that point is debatable but it's pretty obvious what his thinking was.

Before came on we were lacking in ambition/focus going forward. Don't think Rosicky is the right player to change that kind of situation. I'd have brought on Podolski and really went for it. Also, Podolski would have done a better job against Lowton than Cazorla.

In recent interviews when Wenger mentions Podolski he always brings up the fact that he's not yet fully fit.

Can't really use that argument then bring on Chamberlain. How in the hell is Podolski going to get fit without minutes? Really think there's something going on behind the scenes between them. Podolski's lack of minutes down the stretch last season and his reaction during both matches against Villa this season are rather curious.

He wasn't trying to change that situation. We've been closing down shop and making defensive substitutions late in games when we're leading all season. I can't think of any situation where we've made an attacking substitution with the lead all season.

Could be that he's concerned about pushing him to play too soon if he doesn't need to, given that he's currently our only fit (ish) backup for Giroud?
If there were issues he could have been sold last summer?

Maybe he's actually behind Chamberlain fitness wise. Regardless, I think Podolski could vital to our hopes of winning the title. Need to get him up to speed ASAP. If he's not ready to start vs Fulham at least give him a good half hour, then a start vs Coventry.

Even when he does start Wenger has had a problem with him playing the full 90 mins. Maybe he's not pulling his weight in training and not getting to the levels Wenger wants him to be at. Everyone knows how hard you work in training is inversely proportional to the number of thumbs-up instagram photos you take. Still (hopefully) around 25 games to play this season and knowing our luck injuries will decimate us soon. He'll get games as long as he stays unharmed.

Didn't Wenger say something about Podolski not playing to his full capacity and that if he did he'd be a beast? From last summer I think.
