Yeah, that's fair enough.
The point I'm trying to make is we're a small team because of the style we try to play, so in the three key defensive positions in the team; the 2 CBs and the holding midfielder, you want players that are strong aerially (amongst other things). Vermaelen is more than capable, the other two positions, whoever fills them, are not.
It's why I was so against talk of Scott Parker earlier in the season. We are a team that can't afford to forgo aerial ability in that position.
The other reason I highlight Song on this issue is because of how often he needlessly costs us by switching off at a set-piece. He has the height and power to compete well aerially, but not the concentration. Djourou is the same, or at least was for the last 3 months of the season. Koscielny (right now) and Squillaci lack the physical make-up to consistently dominate in the air. If we could get in a holding midfielder who is very good at doing his job at set-pieces and a centreback who can do his job more consistently than Djourou does, I think Wenger would move back towards the system he previously employed, with 3 or 4 big, strong, good headers of a ball in a line across the six yard box, and then a couple of man-markers. At the moment he simply can't do that.
