I'll just add one last thought - that well into the future when I think back to the post Invincibles era (say 2005 - 2015) I won't be remembering many players besides Fabregas.

Koscielny, Rosicky, Arteta to some degree, Arshavin but for such an amazing team we've been showered with meh-ness, and both Cesc and RVP were a welcome break from that.

We were ruining cesc by the time he left, remember bringing him on injured against villa he got 2 goals then came of injured again. We were way overplaying him through injuries and surrounding him with denilson to his left eboue to his right. If you ask me he showed great loyaly by not kicking for a move earlier.

The Cesc hate only became real when he moved to Chelsea.

I hated him long before that.

He never achieved anything at Arsenal either. There are a lot of factors that contribute to being a legend. Sometimes you can be good enough during a fallow period to become a legend but it does take a bit more in terms of ability and character. Fabregas had plenty of the former and pretty much none of the latter. He's a captain who never led us to anything and left in a very unprofessional manner.

I didn't hate him after he left, but I had no affection for him at all and I was pretty delighted to see him fail. But that turned into hate/strong disliking after he joined Chelsea.

Yeah same here. I can totally understand him going to Barca those days where we are serious shit but since then I have hated him with passion.

Yeah, one can only wonder how he didn't achieve anything during his Arsenal years considering the world class players that surrounded him.

I initially started to hate him when he went to Chelsea, but now I do believe Wenger passed on him and that Fabregas'd come here if he didn't. During the Chelsea-Tottenham match where Leicester won the league it was easy to see that Fabregas still hates Tottenham at least.

I actually do believe Fabgregas has or at least had some genuine affection for the club, but that's not really my problem.

Never hated Cesc. Kinda always knew, especially with our lack of investment in the squad that he was always going to adios.

And he never spoke ill of us afterwards.

I didn't hate Cesc for leaving but the shit we went through for years with Barcelona tapping him up was excruciating. It was pretty obvious he had been looking to move for a long time too before it actually happened. And in the end he moved back for what? A in-and-out role in the team that saw him sold again a few years later. He was wildly unpopular on Camp Nou too which I can't say I was too sad about. He made that bed for himself.

Fabregas still managed to win a few trophies. It's van Persie that I have a combination of frustration and resentment towards. He literally threw away a genuine legacy with the club for a single Premier league title. He's only just turned 33 but he's completely forgotten.

Despite his injuries and those wasted early years, most would remember him fondly for years to come had he not moved.

And on top of that he could have moved to any club in the world but the fuckwit wanted to join United and turned down Juventus who - in hindsight - would have been a better decision.

Aw come on, that's harsh. Tell me you didn't feel he was a true captain when this happened

Or the Hull incident, or the shushing Pulis after Ramsey's injury incident - there are so many small things that point towards his character as a captain.

I like Elneny a lot. Good to see him win a few headers, even if it was against Viking. Needs to add more of that to his game if he wants to really dominate the midfield. He and Xhaka might be made for each other, but I'm not sure we're going to see much of it.

Really curious to see what the Weng is going to do with this midfield. Finding it very difficult to predict.

I want him to play Ramsey and Xhaka as much as possible together to give that pairing a proper chance to gel. Guess that's out of the question then.

Yeah but by the time they gel(or not) we might be down to competing for 4th again. Happened with Ramsey and Coquelin last season, when people thought they needed to play more together after Coq came back, but it didn't work out.

Midfield might be a problem this season, simply because we don't have a clear cut starting pair. Hope Wenger knows what he's doing.

I think elneny should be a starter, but he won't be.

I thought Elneny looked more interesting than Xhaka in preseason, but it doesn't mean much of course.

I liked the look of Elneny last season as well. Put in a couple of top performances and was generally solid.

His introduction in the team coincided with our upturn in form in Feb.
