Yeah, I don't think we should have sold Cesc either. He had 4 years on his contract, and we should have kept him to it. He would have been down for a while, but then got on with things. I'll always remember Cesc fondly too, because he gave me so many good moments for a number of years. There is no way I'm going to boo him or whatever, and fans who boo Sagna are idiots. Persie is different. I'd gladly boo him. 🙂

I generally think Wenger and the club give in to players too easily. There was no need to sell Cesc, a player we didn't want to sell, and didn't have to sell for financial reasons. Then there are the likes of current players like Debuchy, Sneezey and Walcott. Loaning Sneezey to Roma is all well and good for Roma and Sneezey, but a pretty shit deal for us. Player wants to go, they want him, we are willing to let him go - force those fuckers to pay up then! Last season it was in Debuchy's interest to go on loan to try to get into the France squad ahead of the Euros, but I don't think it was in our interest because all of a sudden we only had Chambers as back up in a role he has proved he isn't very good in.

The one we really shouldn't have sold is van Persie, but hindsight is a beautiful thing. We should have kept him and won the league, and then he would have stayed. We would have been in a better position to replace him too.

Either way, fuck him. The fact that he forced his way out at the exact moment when things started to align for us says everything about him. After everything Wenger and Arsenal did for him too. I don't accept people talking about him like a club legend.

He ruined it by forcing the move. I can understand him wanting to leave and go back to his hometown club but if the club don't want to sell and you have 4 years left on your deal then you honour it. He not only left us but essentially forced us to sell him at a relatively cut price deal.

Did nothing to dampen the rumours and it seems pretty obvious that he was pretty actively encouraging those twats Puyol and Pique.

This period was what probably made Cesc's mind up, especially that glorious CC defeat to Birmingham. Not to mention that by the time Cesc officially left, we had signed...Jenkinson and Gervinho. Things didn't align for us until we signed Ozil in my book.

Neither Cesc nor van Persie are club legends. Ozil has a long way to go before he gets to be a club legend too, he probably wont be.

I am always of the opinion that the club is bigger than any other players. Therefore for me, any players who willingly move to another rival cannot be considered club legends.

Well that doesn't make sense when Henry is clearly a club legend....unless you don't consider the Barca cunts rivals, or alternatively didn't consider them rivals when the move happened.

Barca are pretty irrelevant - they've had some absolute tossers play for them and their fans are nearly as entitled as the Madrid crowd these days but they're no rivals. Particularly not in 2007 when Henry made his move. I'm quite happy selling them most of our players to them since they largely turn out to be flops.

So people don't like Cesc for moving to Barca only because of how he orchestrated it? Where as Henry is free to go to Barca because they're not a rival...

There are a variety of factors including Henry's profile at the time, his age and contributions to Arsenal. Meanwhile Fabregas did handle it badly but it was also a culmination of a saga that spanned several summers where there was a bit of flirting from both sides etc. Then he subsequently joined Chelsea and that pretty much broke any ties he had to Arsenal.

You're trying to make it seem like the same rules apply for Henry and Fabregas and that will never, ever be the case.

Edit: Incidentally Henry didn't handle his last few months at the club particularly well either but I have 228 reasons why that doesn't bother me.

I was disappointed with Fabregas when he left for Barcelona but I could understand it to an extent (although I was certain he'd fail there) because he was way too good to just keep us in the CL when our management kept surrounding him with dross every year. He was run into the ground badly and the temptation to return home to play for the best team in the world with your former room mates under your childhood idol is strong if your alternative is coming on injured to bail us out vs Villa then limping off again.

I think too much is made of loyalty in football, it's commendable in cases like Totti and the lack of it is reprehensible in extreme cases like Figo but fans only look at players' loyalty towards their club and rarely at the lack of it the other way round.

Anyway, fuck Fabregas for moving to Chelsea though, and to play under Mourinho of all fucking people.

The Cesc hate only became real when he moved to Chelsea.

i never hated cesc for moving to barca. shit i don't even blame him for moving to chelsea because arsenal had the opportunity to re-sign him and chose not to.

Ok. I admit calling RvP or even Cesc as 'club legends' was a mistake. TBH i was misunderstood and never meant it in the way we speak about say Viera or Henry. I was trying to compare them with ozil and as a way of argument pointed out that cesc was for a considerable time a very important player for us. RvP snaked us. Simple

Like someone said, fuck them. They have moved on and so have we.

Fair enough.

Still hate the fucks, though I'll admit that's far more based off how they leaned in on Fabregas, Pedro rolling around, and their general greasiness.
