He looked to have gotten a bit tired towards the end there and seemed to be running on fumes. That seems to be the most logical explanation to why he was losing the ball a lot more then. Also didn't help that the other team had some thugs who resulted in fouling him once they'd realised he was ripping them a new one. By the way have to agree with Capi that the challenge at the end was a definite red and was more at home in an NFL game. Also seems to have a nice shot on him. The kid seems very promising indeed.

Yep, exactly, that's all part of it for me. He just doesn't seem to have good feel or that area of control (instep).

Well to be fair he did turn away from defenders before putting the ball into the box at around 3:20. Then again it is the only incident I could find in the latest clip of him where he deliberately turned backwards from a position of running forward but it's all minor. The kid is what? 17? He's got more than enough time to perfect his technique.

Chamakh does enough turning away from his defenders for the whole Arsenal squad.

I like the kid. I mean, a winger who is confident enough in his own direct dribbling abilities, and actually can beat his man with ease and regularity? It's what our forward line has been crying out for for quite a while. Hopefully he can make the step up and continue in this vein against stronger and better defenders. For a 17 year old, he's very good and I don't mind him show-boating every once in a while, as he was doing in that video. Once he's added some more strength to his game and improves on his decision making, he'll be quite a player. Hope to see him test himself in the waters of the Carling Cup next season.

I've got no sound where I am, so have even less idea what that was all about.

Very impressive. It's astonishing just how much Kyle has improved in the last 18 months or so. Still raw in some areas of his game, but the raw materials he has to work with are fantastic. He also seems to have learnt that almost uniquely English trait of roughing people up in aerial duels, he seems to have all the little tricks of the trade.

I think it'll do him a world of good to play football along the ground again. Sheffield is probably one of the least technical teams I've ever seen.

Surely the sort of talent we'd be mad to sell, hopefully he gets enough games next season to prevent his feet from getting a little itchy.

I think, he needs to improve in his basic defending, i.e, tackling and winning headers cleanly. But, this is clearly a step up for him and hopefully, he keeps on improving.

Physically, he is a beast and his composure on the ball and passing are impressive.

The thing about Bartley that he partly lost by playing a full year for those cloggers is that he's excellent on the ball. Very gifted technically for a defender. Just look at some of those diagonal passes. Used to have such great distribution. When people scream at you to just hoof the ball every time it gets anywhere near the box you lose some of that. I really hope Rangers keep him in midfield for a while.

You don't lose that quality though, mate. He's just learnt new things at Sheffield United, and it really looks to have served him well to me.

You don't lose the talent but you lose valuable development, especially at a young age. Like every other ability it needs to be nurtured and encouraged. Sheffield has been a good experience in many ways for Bartley but I'm glad he got out in time. He's got way too much potential to mould himself on an old fuck like Chris Morgan.

Of course, but if you take the raw materials Kyle has plus getting on for 5 years of technical development at Arsenal, and expose him to the rough and tumble that the Championship provides plus some of Morgan and his mates tricks of the trade - you end up with a really good player at the end of it.

Playing and training with David Weir for 6 months up at Rangers is priceless experience for him too.

Oh, of course. I'm a huge, huge Bartley fan. Just want to see him succeed here, that's all. It would be such a travesty if he didn't. Lad has it all. I'm sure I've said this before but I can't believe how much he's grown the past year, by the way. He has to be around, what, 6 ft 4 now? Perhaps even taller. Looked like a giant in that lineup in the clip above.

Speaking if promising centrebacks, I've never been a big Miquel fan but he really impressed me against Orient. Probably had something to do with the lower tempo, but he looked bloody excellent even compared to our other players. I found a nice compilation of his performance on Youtube:

We've got some really promising defenders coming through in the next few years, that's for sure.

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of Miquel, he did well at Orient even if they barely posed a threat.

He'll surely have to go on loan next season and we will get a better indication of what level he is at.
