His ability to beat people and run at speed with the ball is obviously phenomenal, there's no question about that, and he looks to have a lot of other very good qualities too, but there's something about his close control that I don't like, can't quite put my finger on what it is, but it looks like it would break down under top level pressure/defending. Obviously he's very young, so he will have improved his weaknesses by the time he gets into our first team setup.

Ryo plays with very small margins for error. @ Den Haag a lot of things didn´t come off for him. It is admirable, especially in only his 3rd pro game, that despite that he kept trying to dribble or play the more dangerous pass. He genuinely seems to believe in his abilities. With that belief, his pace, his skill on the ball - this kid looks like the second coming of Cristiano Ronaldo, but less gay. (Nothing wrong with that by the way, just an observation).

To me his close control looks like one of his strongest points. Moves it very close to his ankles, even when running. It's bound to make him one of the most fouled players in Premier League but he's also going to rape defenders to the left, right and centre.

It's not when he's on the run, that's exceptional (or "phenomenal" as I described it above), it's when he has the ball on his right foot, and how he uses his instep to control/maneuver the ball. I don't like it, it looks awkward and clumsy.

I think it looks great. Bit brazilian, perhaps. It looks as if he's in complete control. If you go back and watch compilations of an early C Ronaldo I think you'll see a lot of similarities. Once he figures it out he's going to be great.

I wonder what Wenger is thinking about all this. I don't think he counted on Miyaichi so early. He looked a bit more technical and a little less explosive in the trial games he had with us. Looked like a player that could be a good squad alternative further down the line, but he has to be ahead of JET in the pecking order if he keeps this up. Thought for food in the summer, surely.

I've said from the start I see Cristiano Ronaldo in him, but I would like to see him show some close control with that instep/toe part of his foot, when beating opponents when not on the run. Nani is a good example of someone who's very good at it. Kind of like a matador, showing the opponent the ball and then moving quicker than them when they try to tackle you. Ryo seems to beat people with step overs in that situation right now, rather than close control.

JET doesn't even feature at this point. If the lazy fucker can't even work hard enough in training to get a game at Cardiff, then he won't be playing for us next season - or any season. Unfortunately, it looks like he's a boy that forever needs a rocket up his arse to do anything. Disgusting waste of talent if he ends up moving on to a poorer standard though, and floundering from there.

I was thinking the same thing when watching his highlights videos, Ricky. I also kept wondering why he's not turning away from defenders in any of his videos, and often just seems to run into trouble. He's not the finished article with regards to dribbling. I like his speed and acceleration though.

If he keeps this standard up mate, he'll have a very good chance of getting the special talent work permit at the end of the season. If he plays for Japan between now and then, he;s a shoe-in.

US made a good point on A-M, that no one else seemed to have considered, though, I think we can only apply for one special talent permit per season - so, as far as I can tell, it's Ryo or Wellington this summer.

Would like to have that confirmed though.

Yep, exactly, that's all part of it for me. He just doesn't seem to have good feel or that area of control (instep).
