I think Suarez has been a bit unlucky actually. Theres a few cunts in the PL who aren't much better than him who seem to come up smelling of roses no matter what happens. Thats not me defending Suarez btw - just pointing out the likes of Terry and Giggs especially seem to have a lot less vitriol directed at them despite the things they've done.
Agree with Rex, and Giroud is underrated.
Coombs wrote:I think that might be a bit OTT Rex. You're giving Suarez more power over you and the club's moral standing than he deserves. Nothing is unblemished, but that doesn't mean everything is filthy. I won't for a second drop my level of support. I hate him, but I can cope with that. I'd rather a lesser player who was less detestable, but I'd also love if he (or anyone else) scored 35 goals for the Arsenal next season.
I don't think it's a compromise to detest him as a person while simultaneously celebrate his contributions to Arsenal. I'll certainly say "too bad he's such a cunt" every time, but I'll celebrate regardless.
Still can't really believe we'd pay the kind of money that's been reported...I'd say Suarez is currently not all that likely to be an Arsenal player anyway.
Hypocrisy is the new pragmatism.
In Giggs' case it's mostly himself that has been disgraced, not counting the fact that the club pays him for image rights. Terry is fifty-fifty. Every stupid thing Suarez has ever done has been directly hurtful to Liverpool's public image on the other hand.

Yes, but, their global reputation did not take a hit like Liverpool's. Plenty of players do bad things. You gotta accept the mistake and the punishment gracefully and move on.
Iloveyouarsenewenger wrote:Ajax never got dragged through the mud by Suarez. Liverpool's reputation got spoiled because of their ridiculous and shameful behavior during the racism saga. They made declarations of his innocence based on his words alone, had their players and DoF give conflicting and suspiscious comments and made a mockery of the FA verdict where they did not appeal, but, still criticized the decision. And the Kenny Dalglish and team t-shirt thing was probably the worst PR decision taken by any English team in the Premier League era!
But for their stupidity, they wouldn't have been intrinsically associated with Suarez's misdemeanors.
Look at how publicly they're dealing with the transfer saga now. There is a tendency in them to be overtly public in all of their actions. Perhaps, they do it in order to keep the most blinkered/deluded section of their fan-base (which also happens to the most loud and activism-prone) in their side. But, they certainly don't have the charisma and the sunniness to pull it off and end up becoming a joke to the rest of the world whilst satiating their "online ultras".
Like most other clubs in the world, we'll be much more effective than them in dissociating our image from an errant star player's at any point of time in the near future.
the problem with Liverpool is they have a persecution complex and are always playing the victim. it's always someone else's fault! The reason why their global reputation took a hit (if it did) is precisely because of the way they handled it, You didn't see Chelsea print Terry t-shirts when he was accused of racism for instance.

He wasn't there long enough to really get a chance to drag them through the mud. In retrospect it's clear that it wasn't an isolated incident. You bit someone once, you apologise, endure the Internet ridicule and move on. If you bite someone again after that you should have your drivers licence revoked because it's been made perfectly clear that you're mentally retarded.

That is because they associated themselves with him by being ridiculously defensive and also dishonest (with conflicting testimonies) about the first big controversy.
No, it's because he did all of those things while wearing a Liverpool shirt.

I don't think they would have really been affected much if they had just kept quiet, dealt with the investigation discreetly and accepted the punishment with a due apology and their stock explanation about cultural differences etc.
Being aggressive about the whole thing to the extent of commemorating their victim-hood with a t-shirt was what got them in the soup.

So on-field stuff damages the clubs reputation but off-field stuff damages the players reputation? I don't agree.
in conclusion Suarez in mentally retarded, he does have histrory wherever he has been, Liverpool are a basket case they have a history of whinging and moaning, the two together makes for a perfect storm of controversy.

Good, because that's not what I said.
No doubt Liverpool handled it badly but the whole ordeal was brought on by Suarez. You're not representing yourself when you pull on a jersey. You're representing the club. That representation extends to what you're doing outside the field too, that's true, but Giggs the man is the one who's mainly damaged when stories break about how he's been banging his brothers wife for ten years. When Suarez and Terry shout racist stuff on the pitch they're actively involving their clubs in their mess.

Plus, the following from Martin Keown(Legend!):
Here's why Wenger would stamp out the dark side of Suarez

Liverpool are right to fight to keep hold of Luis Suarez. He is a fantastic player. But Arsene Wenger is the perfect person to erase the unwanted side of the Uruguayan’s game.
A deal with Arsenal is still a long way off, and signing someone with Suarez’s track record could be seen as high-risk. He has run into big trouble on several occasions. He needs to learn from his behaviour because you can’t use racist language or bite people. It’s not on.
But there is not a better educator of young men than Wenger. The Frenchman would make a difference to Suarez’s behaviour without a doubt.
Wenger creates a habit of behaviour that everyone around him follows. He is a very calm person and everyone else follows that example. He makes good decisions based on calmness. He treats his players with respect and creates a learning environment.
All of this is aimed at keeping you from crossing the line, which is what Suarez needs to learn. Of course, it doesn’t work all the time because Wenger still wants you to be fiery on the pitch — I should know — but Suarez would benefit. We all know deep down how to behave; Wenger promotes that.
There would also be benefits on the pitch for him. Don’t forget that Wenger has worked with so many top strikers: Ian Wright, Nicolas Anelka, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Nwankwo Kanu and Robin van Persie, to name just a few. And they have all improved as players under him
Emmanuel Adebayor went from hitting shots yards over the bar in training to scoring 30 goals in a season.
And Suarez has so much talent. He brings goals, has intelligence in the way he links with players, and shows calmness in front of goal. Suarez is a nightmare to play against, too, because of the way he wriggles and turns inside his opponent.
From Arsenal’s point of view, this possible deal is exciting. You need a world-class striker to compete at the highest level — it’s the icing on the cake for any team.
Arsenal have been used to losing big players in the past few summers so it makes a change to see them going after a big signing. It will fill Arsenal with hope and Liverpool with dread.

However many articles Martin Keown(Not a Legend!) writes, nobody has managed to tame Suarez in the past 27 years.
Wenger, in my opinion, would be the least successful, imo, as he is the softest disciplinarian and numerous players (Diaby, Rosicky, Adebayor, Arshavin, Bendtner, Chamakh, Santos for example) have taken the piss under his watch due to this trait.

That's because it was the first noted instance of his cannibalistic nature and their reaction to this unacceptable act was not to try and protect the guilty party. Add to this the relative global profile of the Eredivisie and the Premiership ...
So Liverpool are to blame for the whole thing and Suarez is just the victim?

He spent 31/2 season at Ajax - longer than he's been at Liverpool.
