The "2-3 others" bit is insurance, because we're sure as hell not getting 2-3 other contenders for a first XI place.
Suarez: the great moral dilemma of our time
Could see us competing if we get him in, cazorla stays hot and the midfield finds balance.
Kel Varnsen wrote:we have a good squad of good to very good players, but we lack world class talent. suarez is a world class player; easily top 5 in the premiership. he'll be great here.
suarez and 2-3 other players will make us into genuine contenders next season.
Suarez makes sense for so many reasons:
He'd compliment our wide forwards(Theo, Podolski) a million times better than 1 dimensional strikers like Higuain would. I said it in the Higuain thread(when it looked look like we were going to sign him) that a forward line of Poldi---Higuain---Theo will be a disaster against defensive teams or top quality opposition.
His versatility; he can produce similar performances in the 4 most forward positions(SS/AM, CF, LWF, RWF). That's almost like signing 2 top quality forwards.
PL proven. We've seen players of the highest quality switch leagues and fail to adapt, we don't have that worry with Suarez.
A forward like Suarez is good for Giroud. Yes, Giroud isn't good enough to be our 1st choice striker, but I think most of us agree he'll make a decent 2nd choice striker. The only way he can be a sub and still be usefull is by regularly getting 15-20 minutes cameos and few starts here and there. It will keep him sharp and motivated. We all know what happens when decent players sit on the bench and don't play often - they become liabilities. How will that work with say a striker like Higuain? You wouldn't play them together would you, so that means you'd have to regulary take off your star striker to give some playing time to your 2nd choice striker. Can we really afford to do that? No, not in a competitive league like the PL where games are still in the balance heading to the last 15 minutes. Someone like Suarez though gives u options, u can just take off anyone that's underperforming in the front 4 and bring on Giroud, with Suarez taking over the vacated position.
Just think about this for a 2nd, Wenger who is notorious for his penny-pinching, is now pursuing a target that is far more expensive than his initial target, surely that should be an indication that this current deal makes far more sense from a footballing point of view than the previous one?
Our forward line is without doubt the weakest area in our team. We'll hardly improve by adding few decent/good forwards, we've already got enough depth there, the biggest improvement we'll make is by signing a top quality forward. And Suarez is the best forward we can sign. It's a no brainer, sign the cunt Arsene.

What if we get Suarez + Bernard + a midfielder/defender?
I can easily see us challenging for trophies. Over the last few years we really needed someone to create something out of nothing. We haven't got that kind of player since Henry left. Suarez would provide that impetus to take the game to the opposition.
Suarez alone would give us an outside chance.

Who's the midfielder/defender? Would still be highly unlikely.

I think so too, but I feel injuries would bite us again. We were relatively lucky in that respect last season.
Need a CM, and possibly another creative presence.

Say Gustavo. And we're still not challenging? I think even if you omit Bernard we'll be in busyness.
Nah its still not a title winning team. Suarez descriptiveness and our natural Wenger ingrained problems would rule us out.
Suarez alone will drag the club I love through the gutters. Is a few goals worth that? No.

Not even close I'm afraid. We'd have a starting eleven that, barring any injuries and with a bit of luck, you would fancy to win maybe twice a season against the other top four teams. The squad would still be too thin and quality would be too low. Better pray that Koscielny lasts a full season this year, because no one else is really up to pair in the defence. Sagna on a good day maybe, but he had few of them last season, and no right back is ever going to look good playing behind Walcott.

Off the top of my head I think it's the luckiest we've been for the last decade or so. Cazorla won't play 38 league games anytime soon again, that's for sure.
I think that might be a bit OTT Rex. You're giving Suarez more power over you and the club's moral standing than he deserves. Nothing is unblemished, but that doesn't mean everything is filthy. I won't for a second drop my level of support. I hate him, but I can cope with that. I'd rather a lesser player who was less detestable, but I'd also love if he (or anyone else) scored 35 goals for the Arsenal next season.
I don't think it's a compromise to detest him as a person while simultaneously celebrate his contributions to Arsenal. I'll certainly say "too bad he's such a cunt" every time, but I'll celebrate regardless.
Still can't really believe we'd pay the kind of money that's been reported...I'd say Suarez is currently not all that likely to be an Arsenal player anyway.

I think Manu will collapse spectacularly next season, that leaves the 2 Cs
I reckon we need 2 top level strikers, 2 top level midfeilders (one AM one DM) a defender. Plus I"m still not convinced Walcott can be relied upon in the wing for 38 games and there's still no reason to believe Wenger has exorcised his on-the-field issues.
We might win one of the domestic cups tho
Suarez is very over rated by a whole host of posters in the Tolly. He has poor vision and is a waaaay too selfish player to be branded 'world class'.
Unless you add 'cunt'. In that category he is certainly 'world class'.
Rex, don't be the plastic surgeon who gave Meg Ryan a nose job.
Don't you have a train to catch Klausie?
Rex, don't be the little engine that couldn't.
I do also worry that Suarez may blow hot and cold. Remember when he was missing ridiculous chances for Pool every week?
Ajax never got dragged through the mud by Suarez. Liverpool's reputation got spoiled because of their ridiculous and shameful behavior during the racism saga. They made declarations of his innocence based on his words alone, had their players and DoF give conflicting and suspiscious comments and made a mockery of the FA verdict where they did not appeal, but, still criticized the decision. And the Kenny Dalglish and team t-shirt thing was probably the worst PR decision taken by any English team in the Premier League era!
But for their stupidity, they wouldn't have been intrinsically associated with Suarez's misdemeanors.
Look at how publicly they're dealing with the transfer saga now. There is a tendency in them to be overtly public in all of their actions. Perhaps, they do it in order to keep the most blinkered/deluded section of their fan-base (which also happens to the most loud and activism-prone) in their side. But, they certainly don't have the charisma and the sunniness to pull it off and end up becoming a joke to the rest of the world whilst satiating their "online ultras".
Like most other clubs in the world, we'll be much more effective than them in dissociating our image from an errant star player's at any point of time in the near future.
