Wonder what is Benayoun thinking about his appearences for the Reserves? Don't know what he was thinking when he joined us. Fair play to his Liverpool days but surely if couldn't get a game for Chelsea he couldn't think it would be different here. He got what he deserved I suppose, should have gone for a worse team.
First - he didn't really get going in chelsea (injuries, etc., and was never really part of that team, not anywhere near his star status in liverpool) - so it's not like he was risking anything grand. More chance to improve things than risk deterioration.
Second - he could have been thinking about our style of play. And he wouldn't be too far off: when he has a good game you can see that he fits. If you actually take how many opportunities he had, and the contribution he made - we've brought far worse here on a permanent basis.
But most importantly, regarding your point on how he feels playing reserve: do we have any example of a pro so humble, dedicated and professional? granted, I don't know the details of all player's behavior, bit from impression, he is second to none.
A player on loan, not promised a thing, delivers when ever gets a chance, not a trace of a moan (playing with the bloody reserves) - and always, without exception, you get a full 100% commitment and effort from him.
What was he thinking? I don't know, really. But if I could take the attitude he had when thinking that, and instill it in each and everyone of our players, I would without hesitation. And, considering the type of miracle that happened to Rosicky - who in my mind until two months ago was a whole level worse than Benayoun - his thinking was not too dumb, and certainly positive and brave.
OK, bring on the "useless" jibe now.
