Isn't business about growth, though? I mean the club is getting increased revenue by basically risking very little (new TV contracts, commercial deals at more or less market value, etc). Wouldn't it be at least somewhat logical for the owner to spend a little to potentially make a lot, both short and long term? Kroenke's business strategy makes very little sense. To me it seems like Kroenke views us more as a 401k (put some money in it, do nothing, get money back) than an actual business.

What other club on earth has its manager act as a senior financial officer? It all seems very hedge fund-ish.

A few thoughts I've had in my head lately:

Another concern is the possibility of signing Suarez and nobody else. If that happens, the board/AW could totally think "well, the proles are satisfied, back to penny pinching as usual."

Furthermore, if we do sign Suarez, I could also see Wenger becoming risk averse to the extreme if he flops.

The fact that the club sees spending big purely as a way to appease the masses and not in response to the reality that our squad is nowhere near good enough drives me crazy.

I know this summer is literally nothing new, but living on Wenger Island is really getting to me

He can basically sell his shares next summer for around double what he paid (maybe more) after five years. Don't worry about Kroenke's business strategy.

We've supposedly trimmed the wage bill by £425k a week. £22m a year. That'll basically offset any future loss of champs league revenue

I hope if it comes down to Gazidis vs Wenger, the former has the courage to put his foot down. Ivan's been ring-fencing himself from any fallout but Wenger's just too strong in the club.

Arsene is doing a Monaco. He will be thrown out the door as we will be well out of it before Luis Suarez could even play for us. A squad this bare is going to get undone quickly and our prep for the season has been pretty hit or miss especially for key players like cazorla, we need all this "injuries" to dry up so we at least have the full complement of players until the end of the transfer window.

This start to the season is even more toxic than when RvP went as it is all on Wenger and the clubs hands, they cannot hide. Least of all Wenger as Ivan has already hung him out to dry with the comments about how much we have ready to go and seeing us fail to do a single deal of significance before the start of the season is beyond the pale.

You cant' stop the rot Captain I was taking about atmosphere, and it will be a toxic on straight away if we drop serious points before the window slams, even more so if we haven't got players in.

I don't know Capi. There may be, probably are, things in the pipeline that we are unaware of, but Gazidis was pretty unequivocal when we went into this summer: there was money to be spent and we would be spending it.

Fast forward three months and.... tumbleweed. I don't believe there aren't players out there who would improve us, available to us and, crucially, affordable to us. It's mindblowing to me that the squad is in the state it's in 2 days before the big kick off. There are no excuses this time (if you accept that there have been excuses for the last however many years). And, frankly, if you're happy about the state of things this summer, then you're mental.

It almost seems like Arsene knows he's got his £7.5m a year and doesn't give a fuck about the state of the squad. But I can't believe that's the case- so what's going on?

Say that to fans who have gone to arsenal matches year in year out for decades, this is the sort of thing you get off those who don't go to matches regularly, if at all.

Of course the team will be cheered start to finish but the atmosphere after lost points with everything left on the table as it has been so far this summer will promote derision for those running the club, not the players on the pitch.

Say what? Hundreds, maybe even thousands of people give up their season tickets every year; it's not magic. People who have been going for decades, people who have been going for a few years; meh.

No, actually, it's not okay. It's negligence and complacency writ large.

And, I don't know if you've noticed, or the board have, but people are very much voting with their feet now. It's not a trend that should be ignored. I would much rather be sitting in the stadium, supporting the guys that are left, but I am not prepared to be taken for a mug by Arsenal any longer.

I do, however, reserve the right to be happy when we win.

I said "okay" and unless you have some mystical power to make a group of individuals who you have no contact with spend millions of pounds or the ability to shift the transfer window, you will say the same. Or you won't and you'll go to the stadium to moan and boo. Your choice really. I know what I would rather do with my time.
