Adams hasn't done anything beyond a player role to give any confidence in what he would add at Board level. Sure, a coaching role or something similar to gain experience and demonstrate said worth, but the idea of him being chairman is incredible. I'd say the same about Henry, Vieira, Keown, Wright and any other guy with that cv.

I'd like to see more proper football people (players and/or coaches) involved at the top level than just Wenger.

Structurally the situation is not dissimilar to an organisation in which a CTO controls the flow of all technical reports to board level. A problem with transparency, and diversity of views tends to arise.

Weirdly, out of all our former players, Edu is probably the most experienced when it comes to working with the board. The likes of Brady and Rice should definitely be considered for some role, if they ever express any interest.

I think some fans seem to believe because he was a great player at the club that gives him a divine right to be involved and say what he likes. As captain says he has proven inept at managing a club so to make things worse he seems to think he qualifies for taking a role in the running of a club! Being a football man and being a board man are two very different jobs, he has also eyes up Wenger's job in the past. Why doesn't he take a coaching role up or something and work his way up? No as he has a statue outside the stadium (very ill advised move by the club to get those statues up so quickly I should add) he doesn't need to take up any other smaller job.

I think he loved the limelight and is now using his legendary status as a player to get some attention. A shame because as a player he was a real hero for many of us fans but acts like this can ruin that image.

I think, as things stand, Adams could take up some sort of position that provides a link from the club to the fans. Not sure if he'd enjoy it. Management in any capacity and higher positions are obviously going to be off limits. A little surprised that he wants those positions - always struck me to be someone who didn't like attention or the limelight. His love for the game and the club is not in question but it's not, in itself, enough.

Lack of comprehension from quite a few people here. Its sad that people are so willing to read a headline and bash a true legend like Adams.

Sounds like he wants to be involved to me.

Also Chips Keswick has been on the board for 8 years and has a lot of experience in the business world, even I don't think that is what he is there for but he would off better insight there. Considering he was already a board member as well it makes more sense to promote within than bring in drastic change. I think at board level they are more involved on that side than matters on the pitch so his appointment anyway so why would Tony Adams make a good appointment?

Maybe its just a different perspective though. Some Arsenal fans love Tony Adams and some Arsenal fans love Wayne Rooney.

No, it's nothing to do with perspective. Tony Adams, rightly or wrongly, believes that he warrants a position on the arsenal board; he makes it clear in what he says. Most sensible people see the folly in such a belief, some don't.

Adams made a qualified statement. Some people are blowing it out of proportion acting like he wants to run the club. Most Arsenal fans realise that isn't what he said at all.

There seems to be a real agenda against Adams on here from some. Same goes for Wright. I don't get it.

Don't know what you take that to mean.

I take it to mean that he "believes that he warrants a position on the arsenal board" and I take that belief to be delusional, as I said.

Agenda or not, Adams is not qualified in any way for such a role.

He'd accept any role at Arsenal, but isn't going to be given one by the PTB because he is influential and his opinions are different.

We defo need some new blood at board level. Preferably a few with a solid playing background for the club. Haven't seen anything from Adams for him to be that person. Brady seems a good fit, and I can also vision Bergkamp on an Arsenal board in the future.

It's not an agenda to disagree with him. In his case he usually has strong opinions which evoke a strong response. His status has no bearing on that.

Did you hear anyone object to his statue being put up outside the stadium? The guys a legend and everyone aknowledges that.

Guy was a great player and a great captain, doesn't really change the fact that many of his comments make you want to facepalm. Same goes for Wright, Wenger or any other club great.

If Adams wanted a job training youths he would get it tomorrow.

adams isn't going to get a job at arsenal because he has shown little to no aptitude for coaching or managing, but he has delusional aspirations above his level of ability. that is a recipe for a malcontent, and we don't need that in our coaching ranks. no one is looking forward to the "gunners fire adams" headline.

There's a lot of people running the line that Adams is an idiot.

He's not been successful as a coach but I don't think there's any evidence he's stupider than the average pundit, or plenty of other folk in football for that matter.

500+ starts, 4 league titles in three decades, he's a saint of our religion. I believe he deserves a lot more reverence than he's been shown here.

His status can be defended on the same basis that Wenger's is defended - he was a great winner for us who clearly always had the club at heart.

He claims he put his name forward and didn't get a response ... surely at least a pro forma rejection would've been courteous?

I don't think anyone's that invested in the debate, I just find it odd that people are so quick to jump on Adams' back.

He was a pretty exemplary professional as a player, despite his off field issues, and it's not exactly unusual for someone to have a few concerns about the way the club's been run of late.
