Nah. It would have just diminished the returns of the other players.

I think we'd have challenged if we kept him. Probably would have bottled it but the margins between us, City and Chelsea were really slim this season so it wouldn't have taken much to get 2nd place.

@ Burnsy but we don't know if he would have been the success rapey was.
Fact is Wenger and the rest of the accused sold them the title and I will never forget or forgive that.

dude, we finished 5 pts behind city with a better goal difference. i absolutely stand behind my contention that we wouldve finished 2nd at worst with van persie, together with the squad improvements we made. i dont think we would've won the league, but we would've finished with 80+ points.

i am assuming that if united didnt get van persie, they wouldve bought someone else.

And if City actually thought anyone was gonna beat them in to 2nd they would have got a few more points. Both City and Utd left about 5 points on the table once it became obvious who was gonna finish top.

You can't just add ten points for Van Persie, though.

We've rolled home smoothly on the smell of an oily rag this season, but if we'd ignited earlier in the year we wouldn't have even bothered to show up for the past two months (unless by some miracle we were actually, genuinely in the title race).

it's all conjecture, but there's no doubt we would've a few points better with van persie. there's no debating that.

Yeah. Points are irrelevant really, but I definitely think we could've glued ourselves to the leaders for a bit, and gotten automatic CL qualification with relative ease.

Just think about our barren spell at the very outset of the season. Three games, all winnable, without a goal.

thats what it comes down to. we're 2 top class players short of a title-challenging squad.

the people with wishlists for 6 new first-team players are delusional and idiotic.

They're in two camps.

The ones who think we could buy 6 new first XI players, make it work and win the title next season.

And the ones who think we're absolutely fucked and we'd need to integrate 5-10 new players into the first team squad over several seasons to have a chance.

The first camp I think are underrating the difficulty of turning that many new faces into a working team quickly. We'd probably be a long way off the pace by the time we got organised.

The second camp are overly pessimistic, but that's just an opinion I guess.

Either way, just spend some fucking money Wenger!

The team doesn't need 6 new first team players imo. I think our defensive line is solid. Our mids are good too especially with the Grenier rumour and Ramsey's development. I like our chances with 1 or 2 signings in the Grenier and Benteke/Jovetic mould.
