It's all hypothetical, but it's fairly easy to envisage a significant marginal return coming from replacing one of the league's most inefficient strikers with one of the league's best. In terms of what Utd might have done without RVP, the marginal benefit they've actually gained from would likely be a lot less. Though whoever they might have signed instead of van Persie, I find it hard to imagine they'd have been as good.

Personally, I don't think a 10-12 point overall swing is too unreasonable, based on footballing ability alone. The psychology of how teams would have reacted under different circumstances is basically just a guessing game.

"The Last Season" theory never had any solid backing. Wenger will probably sign an extension very soon, announced with much fanfare. But I want to believe. Other clubs in turmoil with managerial changes and departures, no major sell offs, a few new good players, an improbable run...

But why do I feel this way? Of course I would be happy if Wenger signed an extension and committed to showing ambition and not fighting for fourth. But since my hopes for that have faded, I've taken to the idea that he will try really hard this upcoming season (as if he was not before!) and ride off into the sunset with trophies. Its stupid, I know. But I think all of us would like Wenger to leave on a high note.

So many things working in his favour its unreal.

First, all the managerial changes of our rivals is a big factor why he has got a great chance of finally ending out trophy drought.

Man Utd-David Moyes. For the first time in 27 years they have a manager that has never won anything.

Man city-most likely will hire Pellegrini-has won fuck all as a manager in the big leagues. 2013's Claudio Raineri.

Chelsea-first time in 11 years mourinho goes into the season following a trophyless season. Pressure is on him like never before. Plus no one beats Wenger 9 times in a row (h2h).

Spurs-hahahahahaha.

Good omens-last time arsenal won trophy crystal palace were in the premiership.

Omen number two-last time arsenal won a trophy Wigan were in the championship.

Omen number three-last time arsenal won a trophy the season before a club won a major domestic trophy for the first time in their history-boro won the carling cup in 2004. In 2013 Swansea win their first ever proper trophy.

Chelsea getting Mourinho pisses me off. You just know he will fix things for them, get in a decent striker and organize the defence. Their MF is superb already. If we dont act on City and United going into transition then we simply have no ambition. It is the year we should make enough quality signings to climb out of the 70 point cycle and get back into the mix with the 80+ point boys.

You think Chelsea's midfield is superb? Luiz, Ramires, Lampard and Mikel is a fairly ragtag bunch of centre mids to pick from. Think they should be spending their money on that area tbh, rather than bringing in another flavour of the month striker or winger.
