The point of my earlier post was: the PL is in turmoil or at least renewal, we've just received a significant boost to our ongoing revenue, FFP is coming in, PL wage restrictions are coming in, the stadium debt is largely retired, and there's going to be a huge game of musical chairs involving half the stars in Europe in the summer.

I don't think there's been a bigger opportunity for a decisive and talented Arsenal manager to shake things up in the last few years. I don't believe Wenger's the man, but he believes it.

Burns, for now, I still think we're 4th best. Spending-wise, we won't match Chelsea and City for the short-term, and we will probably never come close to matching United's budget. At the end of the day, football is just about budgets. As long as the managers around us are outspending us and have better teams, there is little hope. We can hope for one team to slip up, but all three? No chance.

Chelsea are about two points ahead of us after a remarkably shit season on our part. Their level is hardly unattainable, same goes for City. Both are about to recruit new high profile managers who will be brutally scrutinised by fans and media.

United are about to enter into a tricky transition and we don't really know how they're going to look not just without Ferguson, but also with fewer veterans on the pitch.

Obviously it's not a tall order, and made harder by the possibility of one of these three rivals really clicking next season.

We have a great opportunity, but as always it's about the club's level of ambition and willingness to spend.

It's a real shame that this once in a half decade opportunity will be missed again because of him.

Really am starting to dread what type of players AW will bring in, we will be getting rid of a lot if the dead wood this summer and have the opportunity to bring in 3 top players, there's money to spend & it's something the squad really needs.. if we bring in another bunch if average players/potentials it will be another couple of years before we will be in this situation again, hope I'm wrong and he pulls his finger out or better still a more ambitious manager comes in

So, in light of the new commercial deals, what does everyone think of the executive management of the club (Gazidis and his team)? Regardless of how they've handled the last few years, I'm liking the direction the club is heading, I can see us being a real powerhouse off the pitch in a few years time, and that should translate itself onto the pitch too and help us cling to the top permanently.

Gazidis is bringing the club into the 21st century and he's doing it well. But then I never had an issue with him.

EDIT: Not deliberately trying to be inflammatory, but the sponsorship deal and increased revenues are a good thing, there's no need to be negative about absolutely everything 🙂

As long as we don't leave our cash reserves sitting in a vault somewhere, and all of this extra revenue is ploughed into the first team, then I'm happy.
We've had funds to spend before and not spent them.
We've got to get further away from the idea that selling footballers can be a key source of revenue, and that trading in footballers for profit is part of our business.
If Gazidis and his team allow us to abandon this practice then I'd believe we're heading in the right direction again.
