I believe we could afford a 40M striker on 200K wages.

But I don't believe Wenger ever will sign one.

Think Cavani would move for around the £40m mark, and Falcao alread has (though figures on his transfer fee differ wildly).

Either way, £40m is comfortably enough to buy us a seat at the table in negotiations for any striker that might hit the market this summer.

Falcao moved for 51m pounds, 48m clause + 3m misc fees and Cavani will only go for 62m euros, which is already agreed by PSG.

There isn't a striker better than Suarez that will be cheaper.

Suarez was absolutely exceptional last season.

Well, depends how you want to play it out rhetorically, but when I talk about an exceptional season for a striker, I think of van Persie in 11/12, Drogba in 09/10 or Henry in... Well, you pick one.

Suarez season last year was very good, but it wasn't In that league. In many seasons, nobody really is.

The big question is obviously; will he still have that hunger and bite next season?

For a club with as much class and tradition as Arsenal, it would be disappointing to see us smash our transfer record on a classless and barbaric player like Suarez. I don't even think he's good enough for us to look past his antics and reputation.

At first i thought we had no chance but by the looks of it there is barely any interest in him from other top sides which is telling.. He flirted with Madrid but they don't seem to be following up their interest. If they actually want Suarez they could buy him tomorrow.

Well, the answer is almost certainly 'Ronaldo, Neymar & Messi', which pretty much puts every other striker in the world in play. So it answers the original point - unless you think Suarez is the third best striker in the world (and unless you're a lobotomised scouser, you don't), there are plenty of alternatives to this guy. Probably even ones with better footballing track-records, and free of rabies.

Bids of around £40mill would get laughed at for Ronaldo & Messi, Neymar just sold for close to £47mill in total and if rumours are to be believed R.Madrid were willing to pay more to get him. You can make a strong case for Falcao & Cavani but the rumoured fee for Cavani is about £55mill and Falcao went for around £52mill after all this third party fees etc were paid. Both City and Chelsea have had their bids (which were below £50mill) flat out rejected for Cavani.

For Suarez I think £40mill would be our absolute tops am not sure we'd go that high but looks like we are trying to get the deal done at £35mill. I agree about the excess baggage part and that is my one serious reservation about the player. His antics have been quite poor and I'd be surprised to see us go for him because of that.

Skysports saying that our initial bid was closer to £35m and Suarez advisors have given positive response to the move.

There goes my theory of £35mill doing the trick 😆

I think this is all bullshit. Don't believe for a second we are in for him.

there are some who claim (the times, mirror) that suarez does indeed have a release clause of ca. £40 mill.

why did we make a bid then?

The one thing I'd say is, Liverpool have hardly helped in 'reforming' Suarez. Everytime he does something stupid they do everything they can to back him, they way they handled the racism incident in particular was shocking. It's hard to say when you have a nutcase on your hands but I reckon Wenger and the club may be able to sort him out to an extent.

Still feel conflicted but despite everything I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be excited if we signed the dispicible bugger. As a player I've been a far long before he was at Liverpool. I think he's worth the 40m too.

Would rather spend that sort of money of Fabregas (assuming he's available).

As would I.
No competition.

I'd don't buy for one second that Suarez would be rehabilitated under Wenger's guidance.
He's fundamentally screwed up, the issues he has will always resurface.
That compulsion he has to bite seems fairly uncontrolled when he's hyped up during a game.

Don't think we have.
