Fourth can't possibly count as successful having led in January, but that logic seems pretty circular. Yes a main competitor has faded, but others have stepped up.

In record book terms, 4th place and the FA Cup would be the most successful season we have had for 9 years. But as Burnsy said, 4th cannot be a successful season having been top for over half of it.

lets put it this way, even if liverpool and everton regress next season (and they will), we'll be in a real battle for 4th. united has the same goal differential as us, so i expect they'll be right around us next season. plus, it's inevitable that they'll strengthen their squad significantly this summer.

to get in the CL, we'll need to finish ahead of one of united or liverpool, with everton and spurs following behind if we falter.

while an fa cup would be nice, HUGE SUMMER SIGNINGS are imperative.

Resolving our injury situation is even more imperative. Going from our injury situation this season to something resembling "par" would (to me) be more impactful than replacing Giroud with Cavani, for example. The two things are in no way mutually exclusive but we have plenty of good players and having said players on the field instead of on the treatment table would do wonders.

that's true. getting our training/physio situation up to par would be like a new you-know-what.

Yes it's our most successful season in 9 years but thats not saying much, we are Arsenal we should be qualifying for the CL getting to finals and winning the odd trophy every year.
So in that context I wouldn't describe this season as particularly successful.

We all know the guys will get 4th .... it's in their core, what Arsenal have set as the successful 'set point' for the season.

If we can just change that 'set point' to a higher level .... I just don't trust the bosses to do that.

But we will bet 4th and probably the FA Cup, though don't count it yet.

Everton have just buckled under the same pressure we handle so very well each year .... getting 4th. They won't progress.

I think it is progress because we were actually IN a title fight until March. In the last 9 years we have only been in it at that point twice I think, and nowhere near it in the last couple of years. Although February and March have been very disappointing, we were actually legitimately in it right up until the Man City game. Win that, and we would still have had an outside chance. This year it has been harder to take for a lot of us just because we were actually THERE.

How we have competed in the league coupled with an FA Cup triumph is certainly a successful season in my book.

It was said at the start of the season and we may as well say it again now; you don't win leagues with a donkey up front and a clown in goal.

He has been absolutely appalling in the last few months, to be fair. He just doesn't seem to be learning. His positioning is still scarily poor, for example.

He has good basic qualities to become a top keeper, but he's not making the progress I'd hoped.

Not to mention that after next season, the championsleague money will get doubled, which means we cannot afford to drop out of the top4 next season and it will be in fact the most important season for us.

We need to spend big this summer, there is a lot more CL-money at stake. It will go from 30 to around 60 million and if we miss out on that.....

I'm truly getting sick and tired of Wenger and fighting for fourth place. Rumours indicate he will be staying on as well, so next season will probably be the same. Even if we win the FA cup and finish fourth, this season will be another massive disappointment and things won't change until Wenger is gone.

I would see 4th and the FA Cup as a definite improvement, seeing as we haven't won a trophy in 9 years. Only one of Chelsea, Liverpool and Man City are going to win the league, hence if they don't win it, for example Man City could end up with just the League Cup this season, Liverpool with nothing, Chelsea with nothing.

Unless of course, Chelsea win the Champions League and Liverpool win the league. But, as long as this doesn't happen; this season, we would have won more silverware than our rivals, many of which who are having relatively successful seasons .
