You have to agree that it is more than ridiculous that we have all this money this summer but couldn't take a risk on RVP last summer. It isn't like we didn't have a ball park figure where we would be with the commercial deals. On top of that, once the stupid decision to sell him was taken, we didn't even try to improve the squad. We simply replaced him and his goals with Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud.

he would have wanted money and a proper star signing as well, a Fabregas level guy. financially, that would have looked like
-24 million transfer fee that we eventually received from United

8 million in additional wages for van Persie
30 million transfer for a star
30 million wages for said star
So we could have been about 90 million pounds worse off to satisfy van Persie. he was vocal about wanting stars, so the above calculation is not too outlandish.

Signing Suarez or Roon would just be trying to polish a turd though. The teams lacks an effective nad balanced mid and has little creativity outside of santi, on top of that we have a GK who simply isn't good enough yet and is still making the same mistakes he made when he broke through years ago.

We should be looking to get begovic, llajic, a RB, DMC, Lamela before we even botehr going in for these guys at the top end of the transfer market. Also both of them are supreme cunts who will shirk us as soon as it got tough so fuck them both.

As you yourself said a few days ago - you do what you have to in order to hang onto your best players. Götze would probably not have signed a new contract without a release clause. In our case, RVP didn't have a release clause, Song didn't have a release clause and Fabregas didn't have a release clause. IMO we should have held onto all of those.

If we spent 25m on a replacement for van Persie, 35m on a replacement for Cesc, and 15m on a replacement of Song, then getting rid of those guys wouldn't have been such a big deal on the pitch, while at the same time making a lot of sense financially.

The issue is pretty simple and always has been, and it's not letting go of players when they want to go.
