Don't think he'll sign it, they are looking to decrease his basic wage (but make up the difference with performance bonuses).

I reckon if we tart ourselves up a bit and make a good pitch we'd be as attractive as any other club who wants him. In fact, trying to put all bias aside, I don't think he could, as an individual player, do better anywhere else. I don't think we could sign a better player for our youngsters to imitate on a footballing level. It all fits. Almost. Unfortunately, Man Utd will never sell to us for a near-competitive transfer fee.

This is basically it.

United signed him for big money after that transfer request fiasco but he was their best player and star striker then.

Now that they've brought RvP in at a similarly high wage, they're finding it difficult to pay two players the same wage especially when one is not playing often enough. So, they want to push him out or get him to accept a lower salary.

This could just be the posturing of a man who is back with a manager that he had some difficult relations with in the past, and has also fallen from being Numero Uno at his club. He's making all this noise to bring the center of attention back to himself and to assert power over Moyes. Unless United are able to bring in some of equivalent or better quality, they will do what they did last time: tell him they love him and pay up.

I stand corrected. There might be some truth to that rumour. This is a leaked photo of Wenger having a secret meeting with Rooney. It is also easy to see why we'd want the medical done before agreeing personal terms.

Signing Rooney would be less of a risk than signing Higuain. Also, with Alcantara seemingly to Man U it seems as if Man U are planning for life without Rooney.

Do you really think it's less of a risk? Given his unpredictable nature and his reported fitness issues and the fact that he's nearly 28, I'd be concerned about just how much we'd get out of him. Then consider that he'd cost a good 25-30m odd more when you factor in wages. Higuain is definitely the less risky option in my opinion.

I think into his price you'd also have to factor in what the granny-chaser could teach our younger players. As I've mentioned, Wilshere and Oxlade, in particular, should be trying to copy his game.

It's hard to say what a motivated-but-old Rooney would offer footballistically speaking. But he has one of the sharpest brains around on the pitch. I find it difficult to imagine him not being a key player even at 33/34. For 5 years at the top level, pay the £25m or whatever it is. But Man Utd won't sell to us.

Rooney is 28, not 32. He has lost nothing and will easily be every bit as good as he has been previously for at least 2 more years. Unlike Higgy he is also well accustomed to the PL and needs no adaptation period whatsoever. He is also a much better player.

Honestly, it would be more risky signing Falcao or Cavani.

We got this guy when he was nearly 28 too:

I have no idea how you can guarantee that he'll be as good. He obviously has motivational issues, anyone who's watching him this season and the period before he last threw a strop and requested a transfer can see his game is affected if he's not happy, there is no where near as much fire in his belly.

I personally believe if he came here it'll be the fresh start he needs to go back to his best and he'll give us 2 or 3 years of the quality we need to win things, but I still think he comes with a load of risks attached.

If we are seriously close to agreeing a deal for Higuain, then, this isn't happening anyway. The whole Wenger wants to link Rooney with Higuain story-line is rubbish from Daily Mail to link Rooney to Arsenal.

A primary motivation for Higuain to leave Madrid is the fact that he is not the main man there and the same for Rooney is the fact that he is being made to play as attacking midfielder. So, why would they agree to come and risk facing exactly the same problems?

And we haven't even started about how unrealistic Rooney's wage is for us or us buying two 20 mill/100-200k wages players for the same position is.
