Rooney, unlike Arshavin, knows the league, is English, and already knows the London based English players for the NT so he won't need to adapt and will already have network of friends in place.

He also won't be playing in a new position for the first time in his career.

Think he would relish being the undisputed main man again as well.

He had all that last year and a couple of years back too, it didn't prevent his below par performances on the pitch.

Arshavin had to train harder than he ever had before when he came here and had to adopt to a much higher intensity of the football played. Rooney obviously doesn't have that to overcome. I don't really know where the notion comes from either that Rooney will decline physically as fast as Arshavin did. There has been nothing to suggest that Rooney is anything like Arshavin in that department.

Yep. Have to say i'm starting to like the idea of signing a no 10 like Rooney/Jovetic rather than a typical playmaker. Would add serious firepower to the team and make us more versatile too.

rooney up front or in the 10 role would be perfect here. great on the ball, mobile and physically strong.

Agreed. I am more warm to Jovetic + Higuain, given that is far more realistic and I think generally will be cheaper than Rooney. I still think Rooney is a pipe dream.

Given the way our summer is shaping up, I think the final results after the summer is going to be terribly underwhelming for us. 🙁

Well if we manage to even sign our realistic targets like Higgy and Fellaini without selling anyone it would have been a good Summer.

Rooney can be a 10 and Higuain will be a 9. Watch Uruguay. They play all of Forlan, Cavani and the Cannibal simultaneously.

This could be interesting.

And Claudius, I'm don't think Rooney's best position is the number 10 position with a striker in front of him. It is only because he has been playing in this role behind Van Persie that his current problems with Man Utd have sprouted up.

Plus - this wouldn't suit our team when we play a striker (Walcott or Podolski) on wings already. I'd take Rooney ahead of Higuain any day, but, can't really see us signing both.

Met up with a few of my mates who happen to support United today and not one of them think that he will be sold to us or any other English club.
Surprised that a few of them have a fair amount of residual bitterness towards him because of the way he went about negotiating his current £220k a week contract.

Rooney is fantastic behind the striker. Playing him upfront, off the shoulder means all his qualities aren't being utilized. That said, we aren't going to play a 4-4-2 and he really shouldn't be played as the most advanced midfielder in a 3 man midfield. Rather then he plays as center forward.

Its a tough one a few seasons ago he was the only striker in the league with enough explosiveness to cut inside Sagna and get a clean shot off repeatedly. He had a mini revival after his overhead goal against city. But his explosiveness seems gone, he couldn't even get away from Song when Song was here. And this season has seen a further physical decline partly cover by his central role. Hes been at the top for 10 years I think his hunger has gone now and he'll fade away.

Wherever he goes we can expect to see the player he is, rather than the player he was.
