Signing the player who dived to end the Invincibles record breaking run would be like taking a giant shit on our tradition and the players who achieved it, am I the only person that sees this?
But it might just happen as Wenger has form for this as we saw with Silvestre.
Sylvestre was a bad signing only because he was a bad player. His previous history made matters worse but wouldn't have mattered had he been a success on pitch.
Wenger is a professional football manager whose job it is to make our football team better. And he has been one for long enough to know that the accolades/brickbats he'll get is because of how well the team performs in the league and for nothing else.
It would be rank stupid of him to pass up an opportunity to sign any player who is clearly of a better quality and has more experience than any other player we can realistically expect to get in the position where we need to improve.
Ultimately, if Rooney comes to us and makes us better and helps us win the league, he's our Pat Jennings, our Sol Campbell, our Eric Cantona and if he flops and ends up wasting our time and money, he's just a Sylvestre. The decision that Wenger has to make need to depend purely on his personality off the pitch and his football qualities and not on anything else.
Patrice Evra, John Terry and Suarez levels of douchebaggery can make a player unpurchasable, but, Rooney has not attained those levels yet.
