weve had out fair share of louts and reprobates gus, you of all people should know that. and it would be nice to stick it to the mancs in the wake of fergie leaving, which i though you might appreciate as well.

I'm not sure if it was motivation or deteriorating skills but Rooney has looked like a shell of himself lately. Personally I would rather sign Jovetic if we are looking for a player to play in the hole since Rooney is not going to play out and out striker for us. Don't like it, don't want him but would like to see us show similar intent with other players. The fact that we are rumored to be thinking about breaking the bank in terms of wages for special players is encouraging but we shall see what actually happens.

While it's true that we know a lot more about players nowadays and we've had plenty players who liked a drink and a punt but I don't recall any racists who hit on their team mates wives and parked in handicap spaces, Terry is a bad 'un.

@ ILYAW I was initially skeptical about Jennings and Campbell but they were model professionals and turned out to be exceptional captures for the club, of course I wouldn't say no to Spurs players like Vertonghen or Bale, Rooney is just a fat little cheating fuck that is already physically declining.

Completely agree Biggus. I personally would welcome Suarez even though he's racist scum. My worries about Rooney are purely on the field. What I saw this year wasn't worth 120k pw let alone the astronomical wages he will command.

Rooney has always been a patchy player who has had one good season followed by one average one. His position was clearly usurped by RvP and he has had to play behind him for the majority of season where he isn't a natural fit.

He is only 27 years old and, easily, has another three to four years of top level football in him. A decline is what has happened to Torres and I don't see anything similar happening to Rooney in near future.

One reason why Man United are looking to dump him might be his huge wage bill. He is earning some 250k per week and United had offered him this salary after his last tantrum when they couldn't afford to let him go (to City who were tapping him up). But, now that they got RvP in with similar wages, they might find it a bit difficult to have two players being paid that much.

In any case, his wage is one of multiple reasons why we are never going to get him. But, saying that he wouldn't be a good signing here when we seem to be praying for Jovetic, Higuain
or Benteke is far from truth.

I like the fact that he is such a versatile player, he can play effectively in a lot of positions, and has the touch & technique to match. Thing is though, if his head's not in the right place, and he loses some of his tenacity on the pitch, I can see him going downhill quite fast as he approaches 30.

Best player we've been linked with, but if we're going to go wild on wages & transfer fee, I'm not sure I'd pick Rooney.

They loved him. Scored so many important goals. Its just one season ago they said Rooney is the best striker in the world, better than RVP.

They put up with him as long he delivers on the pitch but he's no where near being considered a legend up there. That sentiment ended the last time he put in a transfer request.

Yep. They would probably be happy they got rid of him without selling him to City or Chelsea.

I have my doubts that we could honestly, truly afford Rooney's wages together with the not insignificant risk of his failure.

However, I do think it would still be a massive statement at this point. He's 28, not 33. He has it in him to play well for another club, it's not a sure thing but it could happen.

That said, I don't want to sign him. Great player but I don't like him, I don't like his United stink, and I don't like the Oedipal bullshit relationships he gets into with his managers.

I suppose in the right environment he could get fit, lean and rediscover his top form.

I'm sure I've seen that before somewhere.

I think in general there is a perception that footballers all live very clean lives, but I'd bet the number who regularly smoke would surprise most. Not 20-40 a day chain smoking territory, but regular all the same.
