Would anyone take Rooney and make him our highest ever earner? I wouldn't personally and I don't think too many clubs would either. Fancy one of the nouveau riche clubs will try and snap him up purely for his profile and the statement it would make.
Ferguson moves upstairs...

FFS. Wrote a long post but that keeps happening.
edit: anyway, carry on. In summary: Rooney good.

Aye. There are two clubs he can go to and one of them is off limits because he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life living under protection.
Anyone got Rafa's reaction to Fergie's retirement yet?
Damn, i'd have taken just the Fergie news, but this is better?
Good things come in 3s though, so I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings.
Howard Webb arrested? Old Trafford nuked? Giggs convicted for in-law fuckery?
Rooney isn't worth the money or the hassle at this stage.
Everton confirm Moyes will leave at the end of the season.
Ferguson is down to 8-1 to take the Everton job. Lennon favourite with 4-1.
Man United have given Moyes a 6 year contract.

6 years? huge vote of confidence.
I suppose they could go 6 years without CL football without too much trouble. They're lucky they're rich.

In fairness that's their whole rationale behind appointing Moyes. I think Moyes will meet their league expectations but I honestly can see them going six years without getting out of the round of 16.
They probably have some sort of getout clause, making sure the payoff does not exceed certain amounts should they decide to sack him. More of a statement of trust and belief in stability than an actual commitment by the board.
Moyes doesn't strike me as the type to sit on his arse if he was sacked anyway.
I guess that's it for vp, he won his one title and might as well retire.

I'm amazed Redknapp's name wasn't mentioned, this time last year he was the best manager ever!
I think this is a decent appointment. They might not win trophies, but they'll comfortably be top 4, and do it in the black. Anyone following Fergie would struggle to meet the fans expectations, and more likely than not Man Utd's era of dominance is over no matter who they bring in. Who knows what will replace it, but the commercial foundations of the club should provide a platform for staying a contender.
I guess Moyes success will depend mainly on whether or not he'll get the money to sign the best of players, and whether or not he can keep his big earning players in line, highly motivated and performing at the top of their games.
Even if he gets the money, he just doesn't command the same sort of respect fungus had. Perfect transitional manager though.
Transition to whom or what?
I actually think he'll be a whole lot more effective than is being assumed - as long as the board back him with the funds he wants.
I'm not buying the trophy drought scenario for United, much as I'd like to.
Moyes will be a success there unfortunately. Not a bazzilion trophies in 30 years success, but still.
Transition to staying competitive in the CL, way too many changes to compete for trophies. Talking strictly about just next season though.
So many here predicting Moyes will make United go on a trophy drought.
No way, he is experienced and witty in the league. They will always be up there with such a good squad and unlimited resources.
One thing that will not go their way will be ref now I reckon. No more refs cheating shit.
It's been a great few years to be a City fan.

It's not that laughable. Moyes has a lot to prove and United are coming to an end of a pretty spectacular era. Plus Chelsea and City will see this as a huge opportunity - it's a very competitive league.
If someone told you that Liverpool would go 20 years without winning the league or that 2005 would be the last time Arsenal won a trophy, you would have laughed them out of the room as well.
The reason every one is leaning forward now is because United have a lot of big decisions to make. Not because Moyes is inherently a terrible manager.
Think he is a sensible choice to take over. He has inherited a good squad of players and probably will have money to spend, the structure of the club is sound so I see no reason for him not doing well.
People will talk about his brand of football at Everton but you need to remember he didn't have a lot of resources there and still did well, you can only work with what you have. Fans always look short term whereas I think in the long term this will work out well for the club, Mourinho might of bought instant success but you can bet he would of dragged the name of the club through the gutter and shit follows where he goes. He hasn't stayed at a club longer than 3 years. I think Ferguson probably sees a lot of himself in Moyes so the natural choice imo. He'd want someone to carry on the traditions of the club. Fans will always jump on the bandwagon of the likes of Mourinho and Klopp but the moment a club starts getting dictated by what the fans want you know you are in trouble then. Of course you need to listen to their concerns but do what is best for the club.
We need to practice hating Moyes. He is scum now. Reckon Moyes is a bit of a loose cannon anyway. Like a chav who has suddenly won the lottery, he's going to abandon his thrifty skills and play real life football manager with the Rooney money + reserves. And although Man Utd spend big, they've never been about that.

That and I doubt he'll keep top players in check as well as bacon face did
They'll still be successful
Moyes makes sense in that Fergie will still be very involved, and Moyes had previously expressed interest in being his assistant coach.

That was in 1998 tho
Jagielka commenting on Moyes leaving.
He is a first class operator on and off the training ground and on behalf of the players I would like to place on record my thanks for the work he has done improving the team.
βIt was as much of a shock to the dressing room as I'm sure it was to Everton and our fans.
βAll the lads wish him the very best for the future but we still have two important Premier League games to play and all our attentions will be focused on winning against West Ham and at Chelsea.
βOnce the season is over we can collectively look forward in order to ensure we continue to build on the positive work of the past few seasons."
Come to Arsenal, Phil. We know you want to.

Agreed, the sync of the subtitles with the expressions on the faces is not great, like when he tells everyone who ---------- to clear out.
This subject has real potential, I'm sure someone will do a better one.
Gutted. The Black Eyed Peas will never be the same again.
moyes will do just fine at united.

He has always been at loggerhead with us, Arsene and also to a bigger extent Cesc last time.
