Would anyone take Rooney and make him our highest ever earner? I wouldn't personally and I don't think too many clubs would either. Fancy one of the nouveau riche clubs will try and snap him up purely for his profile and the statement it would make.

FFS. Wrote a long post but that keeps happening.
edit: anyway, carry on. In summary: Rooney good.

Going Chelsea.
Aye. There are two clubs he can go to and one of them is off limits because he doesn't want to spend the rest of his life living under protection.
Anyone got Rafa's reaction to Fergie's retirement yet? 😃
Damn, i'd have taken just the Fergie news, but this is better? 😆
Good things come in 3s though, so I'll wait and see what tomorrow brings.
Howard Webb arrested? Old Trafford nuked? Giggs convicted for in-law fuckery?
Rooney isn't worth the money or the hassle at this stage.
Everton confirm Moyes will leave at the end of the season.
Ferguson is down to 8-1 to take the Everton job. Lennon favourite with 4-1.
Man United have given Moyes a 6 year contract.

6 years? huge vote of confidence.
I suppose they could go 6 years without CL football without too much trouble. They're lucky they're rich.

In fairness that's their whole rationale behind appointing Moyes. I think Moyes will meet their league expectations but I honestly can see them going six years without getting out of the round of 16.
They probably have some sort of getout clause, making sure the payoff does not exceed certain amounts should they decide to sack him. More of a statement of trust and belief in stability than an actual commitment by the board.
Moyes doesn't strike me as the type to sit on his arse if he was sacked anyway.
I guess that's it for vp, he won his one title and might as well retire.

😆
I'm amazed Redknapp's name wasn't mentioned, this time last year he was the best manager ever!
I think this is a decent appointment. They might not win trophies, but they'll comfortably be top 4, and do it in the black. Anyone following Fergie would struggle to meet the fans expectations, and more likely than not Man Utd's era of dominance is over no matter who they bring in. Who knows what will replace it, but the commercial foundations of the club should provide a platform for staying a contender.
I guess Moyes success will depend mainly on whether or not he'll get the money to sign the best of players, and whether or not he can keep his big earning players in line, highly motivated and performing at the top of their games.
Even if he gets the money, he just doesn't command the same sort of respect fungus had. Perfect transitional manager though.
