Perhaps, it just seems like a shed load to me (could be "wenger conditioning" 😆 )

25m (pounds or euros?) for a guy who isn't a definite starter for his club, and who has a poor CL record seems like a lot. But then again, I can't think of anyone better (with a similar pedigree) who we could realistically get for similar money.

Honestly, the last thing anyone should be worried about is Arsenal playing over the odds for an established footballer. So it's 5m more - who gives a shit, it's not coming out of your salary.

I saw 25m € not £.

And getting 20 goals in PL top 4 team in his first year does rank as a world class for me. Not the highest, but still in the bracket. Agüero scored 12 in 22 starts + 8 sub appearances this year, would you say he's not world class?

Name the top 5 strikers in the world, would Higuain be one of them? That's my personal criteria (more or less) for world-class. I think it's a term which gets dished out far too often.

Well if 15-20 goals in the league is all you want you could buy a cheaper alternative like Michu or Benteke. Higuain would be brought in because of his star quality, Madrid pedigree, ability to bring others into play etc. We can clearly afford him and he's available and way better than what we've got.

World class is a very vague definition. Anyway top 5 strikers in the world would all cost £40m+. £25m for Higuain would be fine by me. And its probably €25m.

Michu and Benteke are unlikely to be allowed leave for much less than £25m either.

It's a pretty subjective term but in essence it means a player is one of the best around, which he is.

Under Pellegrini he was probably considered among the top 3 in the world.

Higuain, Giroud and Sanogo would be a decent set of options at CF.

It's very likely that if you could sign any striker tomorrow you'd name about 10 others before considering Higuain. Like qs said, world class is very vague (and subjective), but for me personally Higuain is definitely not word class.

Definitely a level below, but he is better than what we have (which is only one striker anyway).

Messi, Ronaldo, Van Persie, Cavani, Ibra, Lewandowski, Falcao, Aguero are the eight that immediately spring to mind.
I'm missing someone obvious no doubt.

True for Di Natale, but it's a hypothetical right here and now comparison so need to look at his age. You're right about adaptation though 🙂

You can't randomly restrict it to 10 players you'd sign before him, if you didn't like his style would it mean he's not world class? It's more about his level. He's a level below Messi, Ronaldo, Falcao, van Persie and Cavani at the moment, but I'd put him about the same level as many of the others you've mentioned.

Also, it's interesting that you dismissed someones opinion of him as world class earlier because they said he'd 'only' guarantee 15-20 league goals, yet you include Suarez. Imbrahimovic has only done it 3 times in his long career, van Persie, Rooney twice, Aguero once.

Having said that, maybe my opinions clouded as the last time I really watched La Liga on a consistent basis was when he was on fire 3-4 seasons ago.

The first 8 on that list are completely unrealistic for us. Di Natale as said turns 36 and isn't better. Suarez has scored 20 plus league goals out of holland once in his career. Rooney yeah he probably is better but question marks surround his lifestyle (Don't mean grannies but his alcohol etc.) and motivation. Financially even if IG says we can afford him he represents a huge outlay.

Just to be clear - I wasn't putting forward a list of strikers that we could sign, I was just listing who I thought might be considered better than Higuain.

Anyway I reckon that I'll be madly excited when this is made official 🙂
