Apparently this is transfer is the culmination of an almost decade long plan. We've been "keeping tabs" on Higgsy since 2004, during his river plate days. We would have had an all-decade team if we'd actually signed the players we've "tracked" in the past 😆.

Never get the 'doesn't turn up in big games' as an argument for not buying someone. Truly prolific flat track bullies can win you the league. The easy part is then closing up shop and boring the shit out of everyone in the big games.

The guy will also be the best finisher we've had at the club for a very long time, so I'm inclined to believe that he'll be able to put his fair share of goals away against the bigger sides. The problem may be if we're pinned back and he's isolated up top, but there are not too many occasions when that actually happens, even moreso if we strengthen in other areas.

However, ultimately he has a record of scoring 2 goals every 3 league games in the last 4 or 5 seasons. If he can keep that up then that's a min 20 goal a season striker right there. 'Awful' signing.

Exactly. People used to say the exact same things about Thierry and Ronaldo. Thierry has won pretty much every trophy in world football and Ronaldo doesn't get it anymore because he suddenly started scoring against Madrid every game. Either way, even when they were both being called flat track bullies their teams (both club and country in Henry's case) they were winning trophies for their teams whilst ending up as their top scorers so despite "being missing" in the big games, they made enough if a difference over the course of the season to win trophies. That said easier in league competitions than cup competitions mind you but the point stands.

Hard to say, too many variables. But he'll certainly get 20 odd if he stays fit in my opinion.

Reckon Theo will outscore him. But that's not really the point. I don't really want us to go to a team that relies on just one prolific goalscorer. We want to improve our forward line and buying a top striker like Higgy does that.

Quoted €25m price tag is also not outrageous for a 25 year old world class forward. Really hope this happens, he will surely get us between 15-20 goals in PL. If we manage to bring in a 'creator' of similar stature we will finally make a step forward again and avoid the battle for 4th.

He's genuine quality, and a definite level or two above giroud. He'd score plenty of goals for us. He'd be revitalised here (not that his stats suggest he needs revitalising) plus its a World Cup season so he should be well up for it

No need for hyperbole simply because he may be signing for Arsenal. He's good, but definitely not world class. You predict 15-20 PL goals for a "word class" striker in your next sentence.

25m€ is a bit steep imo, but I really don't care about the money, it's better spent on him than it is saved the bank.

If we were selling a striker at Higuain's level we would set his price at 25m as well. It's not a bargain but neither is it crazy money.
