Would prefer Rooney then Benteke then Higuain, for the striking position.

Tax, or the lack of it.
Personally i think Higuian is top class. Worth every penny of a £20m outlay.
Well thats a competitive wage issue then.
Frankly I think if we started offering players wages on a par with all the teams Clrnc listed we'd get our fair share of the top players. We do still have a bit of pull.

What about over £25.5m?

Fuck the cash, just pay 30m for him and be done with the striking role. We ain't getting anyone better
Only at Arsenal do we have fans complaining that we pay over the top when we buy players and complain when we don't buy and finish 4th.

We could get someone better for 30m.
What about if we buy and still finish fourth?
Money means nothing. I want players who will make us champions, not a few more goals and another top four finish. If we're pushing into British record territory, I expect close to the best in the league; is that Higuain? I suppose that's a matter of opinion. It's not for me.
Rooney would be my first choice, and if available I would pay to the very limit of what I could reasonably afford. Failing that, I think Higuian is easily a £25m footballer in the current market. The perception that hes a pure goal poacher is well wide of the mark imo, and hes of the same calibre as a Lewandowski for example.
Lewandowski is another sub £20m player masquerading as a top level signing.

Based on comments coming from Milan
For the record, Higuain is welcome down the line but it is, in my opinion, crazy to think that we should be caving to Madrid's demands a couple of weeks into the transfer window.

Yep, Galliani say if the price is right they will sell cause they really need to money.
But with them rejecting 20m + Tevez from City, not likely we can afford him.
Oh yeah, we should definitely negotiate hard. I would happy to throw a fair bit at Benteke as a back up option. Jovetic, on the other hand, I dont want us to spend a lot of money on if we're thinking of playing him at point.

Beggars can't be choosers. Other than Rooney he is the best we are linked with. We ain't getting the level of Lewandowski, Cavani. There aren't any other strikers of his level already that is available.
Higuain + decent signings in other areas can propel us to an outside chance of a title challenge, he is a huge upgrade over Giroud.

I thought you want to stick with Giroud and easily get top 4 again? 😉
What 'level' are we saying Lewandowski is at then? Compared to Higuian for example? Go back a year, or say, the night before he scored 4 against Madrid, and the majority on here seemed to be fairly luke warm towards him.
we have one striker Clrnc. I would take Bent if needs must. It ain't a seal of approval.
I wouldn't mind Bent tbh, prem experience, consistent goal scoring record, english, etc.
Obviously not a great signing, but he wouldn't be terrible.

Yeah, I agree with this. He links well with others, has good vison and runs at defenders, he is generally good with ball at feet. Rooney does all of this much better but Higuain is a definite upgrade on Giroud, something we desperately need. I will be very happy with Higuain, ecstatic with Rooney. Neither alone may bring us a title but that shouldn't dissuade from us from doing the maximum we can for Higuain if Rooney isn't realistic.
