Ye i agree. I'd rather get the best player available at a big price rather than settling for someone else because it represents better value.

I really don't understand the infatuation with signing 'not outstanding' players for above value. Makes absolute no sense to me.

Though I suppose Rooney & Cesc might fit this category. Don't think we'll sign any elite players though.

I think he'd pay the transfer fee for that type of player, but not the wages.

Hazard is on over 100k a week at Chelsea for example, Wenger would never pay that for a 21 year old who has done fuck all really.

Would you rather sit on your cash, Capi, or sign lots of Gervinhos? Cazorlas aren't a dime a dozen and we can't really wait for a 500,000 pound Fabregas or Song to develop over 3 or 4 years.

TBH as long as we are willing to spend money, we should do okay this summer. There are many good players available and once the initial hype subsides we shall see deals happening. This time around even chelsea are looking to sell a few players to buy a few.

We could have bought a superstar for the money spent on Gervinho, Giroud, and Santos.

I'd much rather buy a few quality players for the first team, and give chances as squad players to youths from the academy.

So whats the alternative presuming we're not going to get a Rooney or Lewandowski? Higuain is about as good as we can realistically get.

Clrnc, we have taken ourselves back to where Citeh was a few years ago. We are outsiders. Citeh made themselves insiders by paying over the odds. We will need to do that for a few players; some tier 2 stars first, and then we can work our way up to tier 1 stars. Just like Citeh.

We aren't suddenly going to have Neymar, Gotze and Cavani begging their agents to bring them here.

IMO its a myth we don't pay good wages. Cesc took a pay cut to join Barca.

Personally, I would spend £20m on Higuain - he's not elite, but he'd be a massive upgrade on Giroud anyway.

I just don't think for a second Wenger would.

Competitive wages won't help us get players over City, Chelsea, PSG, Monaco, Juventus, Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, United. At least this 9 if they are paying the same wages in my opinion.

I would agree with that. Like I said a few years back, once we go onto the selling club cycle and don't win trophies we will need to do quite abit to get out of the cycle. Its easy to fall from the top tier european club, but very difficult to get up back to the top again.

He's a massive massive upgrade on Giroud and starts for one of the biggest clube in the world on merit. Yes he's worth signing and yes he's worth paying a bit more for. What is "outstanding" ? Don't get into pipe-dreams people. Falcao, Cavani, Lewandowski etc. those types of signings are not happening. This is our most feasible goal-scoring option in the market.

And FFS people sharaawy? Use some common sense- the player was purchased by Milan at a fee higher than our transfer record and the season he's had has already added a significant value to that.

Why would anyone go to PSG or Monaco ahead of Arsenal if the wages were the same?
