Unless we have a "special" deal or two lined up where ready cash or a pre-agreement is a factor (Cazorla, Podolski), then we will, as usual, wait for other clubs to spunk their loads before we enter the market.

Gazidis has already alluded to the season being slow to warm up because of the managerial merry-go-round. That only affects us because we also tend to wait on other clubs' player deals.

Higuain can't seriously be forced to go to a Bale-less Spurs with no CL football for the equivalent of £5m compensation for Madrid relative to a cash deal.

Juve are supposedly in for Higuain, Jovetic, and Tevez—either way they're definitely in the market for a forward. Perhaps once they make a move for one of the three, or someone else we'll be in the game after that.

Juventus can barely afford one of them say my Serie A watching mates. With Fiorentina they are trying to add players but with Madrid they can't do that. The chumps bid 8 million for RVP last summer.

I think it's Higuain or nobody for us in the striking department as far as 'big' names are concerned.

Which takes us back to those arguments about whether we're a "bigger" club than Juventus I guess. Historically no, currently ... ?

I think the key question is whether or not you actually think we'll go over £20m for Higuain. I don't. So then what?

Well, taking that as a given ... if we don't go over £20m for any forward, then we either don't get a decent forward, or the market really does tank this year.

I don't really know if we will, but I certainly hope we have it in us. It wouldn't be entirely out of keeping with the history of Wenger's spending for us to spaff £25m on someone at this point.

I would pay the 20 or 25m. We need a striker. We need to show seriousness. We need to appease the fans with a decent name.

There are many here who would rather not spend the money. If today we 'overpaid' and got Higuain in at 25M I would be happier with the knowledge that we have a class striker onboard than I would be concerned by the fact that we have eaten into the budget to buy other players.

I don't really go in for predictions of that nature, but I certainly wouldn't confidently state you were wrong. I'm fairly confident we're in for an attacking player—will have to wait and see how things pan out.

It's not only the fans, but a big-name signing would also send a message to the players.

If we're spending 25m on Higuain I'd rather spend that on Benteke or Rooney to be honest.

At the end of the day I don't really care though, I just want several good players this summer regardless of what they cost.

I just can't imagine Wenger looking at Higuain as the player he finally coughs up his principles for - he's just not good enough.

Nope I agree. Think he'd only go 25 plus for a select few. Gotze would have been one

And who are these players that Wenger would be willing to break the bank for? Someone mentioned Gotze. Gone to Bayern already.

Who else would there be? Falcao? Gone to Monaco for mad money. Neymar? Gone to Barca for mad money. We don't play in the major leagues. Higuain is about as good as we will get for an established player.

Any talented youngish player, with the kind of skills that Wenger values, who could make an impact straight away. Similar to when we bought Reyes.

I think he'd only do it for a young player with re-sale value, so not for the likes of Falcao or Cavani.

Gotze, Hazard, Isco, Jovetic are the type of player that he'd break the bank for. In terms of a transfer fee, but not wages imo.

He is willing to pay quite a lot for talented youngsters. Might've been interest for Hazard and Oxlade wasn't too cheap. But we've seen some very odd signings in recent years and I don't know if he has a particular trend anymore.

I think Higuain is a very 'new Wenger' signing. Fits into that Podolski, Cazorla type of profile that is very experienced but not too old. He's only 25 years old. My gut feeling is that he would be interested in Higuain at £20m+.

Hazard and Gotze chose other teams ahead of us. Jovetic is rumored to favour Juve ahead of us. And nothing on Isco. We are not getting this class of player. We sent the signal that we do not want this level of player in the past few years. So they won't come. At least not easily.
