How is Higuain a "lesser player"? He's one of the first names on the team sheet for them. They're about as likely to get rid of him as they are to sell Casillas or Ronaldo.
How are vd Vaart and Robben lesser players? What about Sneijder? They all left, and had an ENORMOUS impact at other clubs immediately thereafter.
Basically van der Vaart wasn't considered a regular at Madrid at any point during his time in Spain. He was outside the entire squad for long spells. Had a few good months in his last year which put him on the map again though.
Anyway, the point wasn't the quality of the players Madrid have in the stands. We all know their shopping spree has been insane in the last few years. It was that Higuain is one of the ten best strikers in the world - far superior to the man in your avatar for whom he's been making life in Spain difficult, for instance - and that you'll be severely disappointed if you really think we can just sneak a bid for a player like that. It won't happen. Be realistic.
