Lot of luck involved. Sometimes you catch it sweet and it flies in, other times it flies over the bar or you miss it all together.

Rooney pretty much said this himself in the after match interview.

Was a cracking goal. You'd have drowned in your own dribble if Wilshere had scored it. 😛

Rooney shinned it. Haha, didn't notice it at the time, but just seen a replay after someone said he did on A-M, and you can see he shinned in good and proper. Still a great goal, just a bit lucky.

United were toilet again apart from Nani, Giggs and Smalling. Rooney was woeful apart from the wunder-strike. Credit to him for burying a chance like that in a match where he could barely control a 5 yard pass.

A word on Nani though - Unfortunately I think the Mancs have found their new leading light in attack. He's fast becoming the lynchpin in their forward line. He's still a selfish cunt, but he's a better all round winger than Ronaldo was in his time there imo. His dribbling and crossing make him a threat every time he's on the ball. Must stop him at the Emirates.

Superb goal from Rooney, in terms of both quality and importance. Ricky it's all very well to point out he shinned it, but given his shin was a foot and a half above head height at the time I think we can forgive it.

Hate to say it but we could rue those two points at the end of the season.

I noticed that on the replay too. Doesn't really take much away from the goal though.

This isn't directed at you, because I saw what you said regarding the goal on the other page, but I wonder how many of those Arsenal fans who will obviously belittle Rooney's goal because it was slightly shinny are the same fans who think RVP's against Charlton was one of the best goals ever.. we all know he shinned that one even worse than Rooney did.

I remember pointing out the RVP shin thing on A-M.

YBF went mental because he was an RVP fanboy. He just had to prove that he was better than Henry.

I was only really joking tbh. It was a great, great goal, that I feel was still a little lucky. And I genuinely say that about most goals like that. They would never win my goal of the season.

I felt the same about that goal from the Irish league (the outrageous backheel) that was up for the goal of the year award. It was incredibly lucky, nothing particularly calculated or intentional about it. Still a great goal, once in a lifetime., but incredibly lucky.

Suarez looked very tidy for Liverpool yesterday.

@Ricky I guess I'm from the "a great goal is a great goal" school. Anyway, fuck Rooney, we've got van Persie.

But if he has a poor game will you write him off?

Maybe a string of poor games.

And before you say anything i'm not a big fan of Chamakh either.

I believe that was a sly dig regarding your disdain for Chamakh.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW ASAJOSEPH!

I don't really like Chamakh that much either.

But I remember him specifically saying Koscielny looks great during his pre-season games but then at Blackburn he didn't really like him.

With Chamakh he's more or less consistent.

Sunday Supplement did a feature on overhead kicks this morning, and for some reason didn't include this one - still one of the best goals I've ever seen.

Clearly shinned it though.

Mauro Bressan's was good as well, but it's the timing of Sinclair's which (like Rooney's) makes it so exceptional. Laurent Robert's was the other one that impressed me the most.

Fuck Rooney indeed. That moment of great, great quality aside, he was bloody awful, completely ineffective, and looked so slow and weak. Looks to me like 10 years of hard football at the top, when he's body maybe wasn't totally ready for it, have really caught up with him.

Agreed. I think his alleged recent "form surge" is much exaggerated. But United still get the points.

@ Ricky

Have you seen Sky Sports this afternoon? They are wanking over this! Hahahha! The Sky hype. 😆

They went through Rooney's top goals since 2004/05 (including his goal against us at Emirates last season).

They then showed some Sunday league team trying to recreate the goal. A guy crossed in some nice loopy balls and a guy tried to bicycle kick it. Most of them were missed completely (they couldn't even get their legs that high) before eventually a guy smashed one in. There was no opposition. Just a crosser, a shooter and a keeper.

Then they showed the league team claiming it to be the best goal of the season.

Then they showed Rooney's goal.

Then they spoke to the United fans outside the stadium.

This one is pretty special:

And I was at this game, behind the goal!!!

Are leicester your second team or were you a former fan?

Great goal by the way.

I live in Loughborough (who Arsenal's biggest home win AND biggest away loss is to, did y'know?), in Leicestershire so naturally I have a lot of mates who support them. Never felt any connection to them, infact I don't like them at all really. Prefer Forest actually.

Err yes we know.

Doesn't surprise me at all. But no I didn't watch it, and I never do. For the same reason I watched all the games on MOTD last night, minus the United-City game. I'm just not interested in what they have to say about it, it's utter biased bullshit, and I don't need them to tell me how I should think or feel about something I've seen for myself.

Wasn't directed at you. Knew you'd know you old fart.

In other news, I watched the Bayern game at the weekend, first time I've seen them properly all season. They look pretty tasty, especially going forward. I think they've finally got all their best players back fit. I know Robben gets slated a bit but he's an absolute handful, scored 2 belters and set up another. He's in a different class to someone like Nani imo.

here's the goals and highlights;

Oh, and Dzeko looks like a busted flush to me. He'll probably do alright over here, but early evidence suggests that he's not gonna be anything special imo. He's got no power, acceleration, pace or agility and he's not got a touch of genius to make for what he's missing. He's unbelievably poderous on the ball. Actualy looks quite similar to how Bendtner should/could be in a couple of years time; big, fairly physical, technically decent, a bit of a handful.

Now watch him score 30 league goals next season...

I don't think you'll find anyone who doubts Robben's ability when he's on it. His dribbling at times is second only to Messi. Still remember his first season for Chelsea. He was something else.

Trouble is he's incredibly selfish and he seems a prick too. It's hard to like him and give him credit.

I think even ManU fans would admit he's in a completely different class to Nani.

Nani, though, has come a long way and is the best player on the team at the top of our league, so no small feat there.

That said, Robben is top-tier quality. With him, Muller and Gomez, Bayern boast some impresisve attacking talent.

Berbatov has probably been their best player, actually, thinking about it, Vidic has been comfortably their best. Nani's a good player though, just along way off Robben's level. A really long way.

Nani has been their best player mate, he makes everything positive that they do happen.

Vidic was being called Superman and touted as a potential winner of the PFA award, only a few weeks ago.

It was unwarranted then and it is unwarranted now.

I think Vidic has played at a high enough level to be considered a lock for PFA team of the year alongside Kompany.

Nani has been United's attacking inspiration this season, and is probably their best candidate for PFA player of the year.

Berbatov has had a lovely season, but his campaign will be killed by the simple fact that he rides the pine in big games. Not a good advert for player of the year

Can Nasri make it? We'll have to win the league with him scoring and assisting like hell.

As you can no doubt guess, I agree, I'm just saying lots of people would tell yuo Vidic has been their best performer.

I don't know why I chirp in with these comments about Man United, I really couldn't give a toss about them or their players.

Because you're a fotball fan, Ricky, and you can't get enough

And he wasn't even treated at the Milan lab.

The only Man Utd player I've ever actually liked.

This guy's incredible.

The weird thing for me is that even though I recognize his ability as a footballer and the quality of his character, I can never really like him simply due to THAT goal he scored against us. Every time I see the fool, I remember the run and... damn him!
