Agreed, it is a smoky story ... but I think things could change quickly for Cesc if Barcelona did somehow decide he wasn't a good fit and try to move him on. If your dream club shows that sort of disloyalty, it stings ...
There's only upside for us if he does move, from what I gather.
If he leaves for a huge fee we either take first refusal, pay the huge fee and get him back, or some other club pays more for him and we get 50% of £40m or whatever.
And if he leaves on a free in a few years we can pick him up cheaply at least in theory. The only thing we'd have to do to seal the deal is build a genuinely competitive squad for him to slot into.
The chance of a possible return presumably goes into the bin if Wenger moves on.
