well we aren't professional athletes so we can come to whatever silly conclusions we want. they don't (and definitely shouldn't) have that luxury when they are being paid by the club.

Agreed, it is a smoky story ... but I think things could change quickly for Cesc if Barcelona did somehow decide he wasn't a good fit and try to move him on. If your dream club shows that sort of disloyalty, it stings ...

There's only upside for us if he does move, from what I gather.

If he leaves for a huge fee we either take first refusal, pay the huge fee and get him back, or some other club pays more for him and we get 50% of £40m or whatever.

And if he leaves on a free in a few years we can pick him up cheaply at least in theory. The only thing we'd have to do to seal the deal is build a genuinely competitive squad for him to slot into.

The chance of a possible return presumably goes into the bin if Wenger moves on.

what is this about Fabregas' attitude? isn't this the guy who played on and took a penalty with his leg hanging off? attitude is fine. i think he and RvP were just bored of the lack of support in their last days at Arsene's academy

2 years feels too short, especially when Xavi is at a stage where he is starting to slow down. if i was Fabregas i'd go another year with Barca unless i was forced out.

the problem for Fabregas is that Barca might not have an unlimited amount of cash. if the new manager has specific players he wants to bring in (e.g. a striker or speedy winger, or central defender!), then he is their most tradable asset. other tradeable assets have no internal eplacement (Iniesta, Messi, Alba) and some who are too old to get value for (Xavi). their most valuable tradeable assets in order are probably Fabregas, Alexis, (Pedro), Thiago, Tello.

Like others have mentioned more of a pipe dream but you need to dream sometimes!

I think that's a bit farfetched. I think if you put in Fabregas with say Lewandowski as just 2 purchases that would be enough to make us challenge. But those are 2 elite players. Maybe spunk it all on Cavani. He's got Napoli to 2nd in Serie A.

Of course we do because we are never going to get two world-class players but if we did then they we could compete (Probably not win but compete).

By far and away the best player that is even within the vaguest of realms of us signing.

Wouldn't get us back to where we want to be alone but would still be a massive boost. He was never able to drag us over the finish line when it really mattered, such as in the CC final, but I'd fancy our chances more if he had guys like Santi and Poldi rather than Nasri or Hleb alongside him. We'd still need a proper striker a defensive player or two to go with that lot though.

Fabregas didn't play in the final mate :p Saying that we had RvP, Nasri, Rosicky, Arshavin, Wilshere & Song in that team which should of been more than enough to see them off. We had the chances to win that match as well.

Realistically, we got fucked in that match. Thought we had it somewhat in hand and were burning down to extra time when we got mugged by one of the worst defensive cockups you'll ever see.

Agree with JazzG about the need for players. One or two players is nowhere near enough for this Arsenal team. We have about 3-4 players who could confidently ask for a starting spot at Chelsea, City, United. We need 3-4 others who are as good or better to get us competing consistently. 2 players will not make a 20 point difference to United.

Van Persie makes at least a 10 point advantage by himself. If you're asking whether he alone can win you just 3 or so games over any other player in the league then the answer is obviously yes. So that makes up our difference. Dress it up anyway you want to make yourselves feel better, but this league is shit, no-one can defend, and if we kept van Persie we had a really good chance to win the league.

Also, of course we'd take Fabregas. Very good player. But we'd need a top striker in any case.

if you came back with Fabregas, Cavani and a top DM, then we can start talking about competing. We have a dual problem of missing quality and no players in certain positions. Fabregas alone is not going to be an extra 10 points. What about the 4 o 5 points we lose from removing Ramsey or Wilshere from the starting line-up?

Fabregas has the opportunity to come back if Barca decide to sell him but I seriously doubt he'd choose us over a better paid job because at the end of the day he's a mercenary. When he left he said Barca was the only club he could go to but now he wants out of there and we'll see exactly what a lying weasel he is with where he ends up next.

Like I said, who cares if we've got first refusal and a 50% sell-on. We either get him or we get a payday, good each way, so here's hoping he moves to PSG for £50m on a half million a week.
